The Seventh Grade's first year in Junior High proved to be a successful one. During the year their interest was displayed in both scholastic and social activities. They contributed one gal to the cheerleading squad as well as several fellas to the Junior High Basketball Team. Now theseboys and girls are looking forward to the future years with high hopes of contributing to school affairs. 3 1 l 1, ay A ,VFX ,,-vw 'HH i'f V -fm x,.,!l' 11 vg 1 M fi f rv , 1 I ',f X! The team made an excellent showing this year, considering lt sustained more than its share of injuries. Our congratulations go to Co-Captains, Jack McCarty and Bill Case, and to the team for showing real school spirit and sportsmanship by fight- lng their way through an unsuccessful season. lt takes real courage to stay with a team when it's down, and these fellas, though the score book says they've had no wins, proved themselves to be genuine champions. The team made a wise and charm- ing decision when they chose Miss Hazel Sunnycalb as their Football Queen of '49. Thanks fellows, forthe grand work. 34 1 .ix k Q-qi Cliaaleetlvallll SITTING-John Urton, Bill McKenzie, .lim Decatur, Bernard Brockhage, .lim Denier, Bill Case, Dick Meyer. STANDING- Mgr. The '48-'49 Mustang Basketeers became known throughout the county as the Cinderella Boys. If you have followed their games through the season you will know why this particular name was given to the Madeira Five. After losing several games the boys pulled out of their nose-dive and went on to the County Tournament to take the siecond place trophy. To accomplish this Madeira defeated Sharonville and Sycamore but suffered a close defeat to Greenhills, then went on to the District Tournament. After conquering Georgetown, Lockland Wayne proved to be their downfall by handing them a loss. All but two of the men will remain on the squad next year and we know that with the kind of coaching and spirit they have, they will really go places. The Seniors of '49 are wishing them all, the best of luck. Frank Bailey, Don Edmonds, Coach Sid Friedman. Looking into the future we see great things coming for M. H. S. in the basketball line. Although the Madeira J. V's. did not appear to be very expert at the beginning ofthe season, they, like the Varsity, pulled through to take the runner-up trophy in the County Tournament. When a team has suFFered as many losses as did the J. V's. and pull through so well at the last, we know they have the makings of really fine ball players. We are expecting to see them do a swell iob next year, and we're sure they won't disappoint us. 38 nada .Schooll FIRST ROW--Walter Wierwille, Larry Reece, Danny Groves, Charlie Perry, Eugene Malacly. Before the season was half completed this team was labeled as, Champs. They held high the title of undefeated and entered the tournaments with great enthusiasm. The second game of the tournament proved their first loss. lt was a tough break for these Junior Mustangs, but they took the declslon like true sports- men. In future years the Senior High team will welcome these players to represent M. H. S. We say, Thanks fellows, for some thrilling games. 39 HOCKEY Centers-Joan Billiter, Vivian Spaulding.
