By unliring inferesf and unflagging cheerful- ness. fhis friend has been an inspirafion fo every sfudenf. No day moves smoofhly wifhouf her. The rickefy sfeps fo fhe fhird floor do nof defer sfudenfs from going up fo see her. Eighfh Graders. who are her parficular charge, are fhe envy of ofher sfudenfs. Seafs in her room are af a premium during fesf weeks. We would fruly say of fhis charming person, Precious fhings come in small pack- ages. l-ler finy body carries a big hearf and soul. We wonder af her energy. her vivacify, her enfhusiasm. Broken wafer pipes and overflowing drains do nof dampen her spirif. The breadfh of her undersfanding is remarlcf able. For fhe Veferans, she ever has a sympafhefic ear. For Mrs. Farr's children she has a ready smile and a warm welcome. The class of 1948 sat sadly around the long table in Miss Dyeris room. livery heart grieved at leaving Viaud and parting from classmates. Finally, Charles rapped with his gavel and began, The class will come to order. Silence! Then Aubrey said. I move we make our Last VVi1l and Testament. Second the motion, called Trudy. The vote was called and carried. Then l leave my typing skill to struggling Freshmen. said Donald Arring- ton. And I leave my knowledge of Chemistry formulas to Raymond Hill, said Teena. That's an idea and I do the same for P. VV. Miller, cried Rudy. VVe'll leave our knowledge of color and 'fashion to Tay and Mary Van, said Eunice, Betty, Marilyn, and Charlotte in one breath. VVell, l'll not be outdone, said Erinaclell. I'll leave 1ny steady nerves to Ross. That's line! And we'll leave our positions as school custodians to Billy Gill, Fred Mercer, Richard Caldwell and George McDonald, said Aubrey and Charles. The rest of the class sat quietly thinking. Then Virginia VVebb and Jeanette Brittain rose and almost sobbed, VVe'll leave the office and library to Ann Marlowe and Trudy Horton. XVell, ,lill leave my wander-lust to Louise Cohn and Trudy will leave her dancing skill to liste-lle, said Helen Sue. Then Betty jo Funk and 'Ioan Dickerson slowly rose and said, XVell, class- mates, we were away from V iand long enough to l'CEll1ZC how much our classmates and school meant to us. So, we move that all of us leave to our Alma Mater our love and best wishes! The class voted an unanimous assent and adjourned. Signed, JOHN TWTILLAY, Secretary page twenty-one Ultima lgrnplgerg . . . The atomic bomb dicln't really blow up all of the civilized world as everyone had predicted in 1948. Instead, that vast store house of energy was released to help struggling humanity and a new order arose. Life was easier and more pleasant. Best of all, increased leisure stabilized peoples' nerves and gave them better balance so, when in 1958, the Viaud class of '48 came for its tenth reunion, we were a better group. Charles Cutshaw's restless energy had been turned to construction work and he proudly displayed his latest model car, designed and built in his own factory. Trudy Layman's voice had been turned to good account and controlled and directed, she had become a Broadway star. Betty Jo Funk's equestrian skill had won a string of blue ribbons at the Kentucky derby. The newest designs in house furnishings were admirably displayed in Helen Sue Holcomb's new home. fHer skill in decorating even made it possible to dis- play a University of North Carolina banner without harming the color schemej ' Jeannette Brittain and Virginia VVcbb proudly displayed pictures of Long Island homes furnished in the most elaborate and beautiful manner. . Aubrey Lester, following former President Truman's example, tried the clothing business. This led, as in Truman's case, to politics and now Aubrey was representative from his district. . John Millay had followed his desires and after designing a United Nations' building, was busy designing a new Viaud School. Eunice Bradley, Betty Roberts, Marilyn Kinnnerling and Charlotte XVade were noted as the four best dressed Women in the United States. The ten years since graduation at Viaud had frequently seen the pictures of these four in the Society column of Roanoke newspapers. Rudy Spiers' business success had led him far. The Spiers' products were sold throughout the United States and in all foreign countries. Richard Stuart had become manager of the Roanoke airport and was achieving signal success, Ermadell Strain, quiet and dignified as in Viaud days, had become the efficient manager of W. R. O. V. Paul W'ebb was head of the Farmers' union in Floyd and joan Dickerson was hostess on one of the planes of the Dicloerson-Goodwill Air Lines. Teena Economy was chemist for a great New York concern and Garnett VV ood had become head of General Motors. The reunion of the class was naturally a colorful event, for scientific ad- vancement had produced beautiful new fabrics and designs. The handsome audi- torium at Viaud held an unusually famous group of people and everything was designed to make the 10th reunion of the class of '48 a Real Success! page fwenfy-two MI a4!Jvezfi,4ez,4 FOR COMPLETE NEWS COVERAGE THE ROANOKE TIMES Marzzying ana' Slllldll-QV Uhr iliuannlw lmnrlh-Nunn E'Z't?I1Tllg RADIO STATION W D B J 960 011' your Dial AFTER SCHOOL Drop In Af GEORGE?
