The Student Council began its '58-'59 year serving as Vice-President of the Missouri Association of Student Councils. They sponsored the Freshman Orientation as the first assembly of the year, and amended the Constitution to allow a fourth representative from each class. At Homecoming, the Council presented the Homecoming Queen and Attendants with sterling sil- ver bracelets. They also entered a float in the parade. Two other assemblies were sponsored by the Council. The first was the Formal Installation of Officers and Representatives, and the other on Sportsmanship. The four paid assemblies for next year have also been arranged. At Christmas, snowmen were put in front of the building and the doors were well decorated. The Council sponsored the Christmas baskets and entertained the student body with the aid of Miss Jones, with an enjoyable pre-vacation party. After a midterm evaluation duringthe ho1idays,they returned with plans for the annual Valentine Dance, the election of new officers and representatives, revision of the handbook, and well drawn diagrams for fire drills, The fire drills have been quite Successful, During the year the Councilsponsored several money-making projectsg a Faculty-Varsity basket- ball game, concession stands at two games, and a benefit movie are a few. In March several membersjourneyed to Springfield for the state convention, where Jerry McBeth lead group discussions, as state vice-president. -fl? 1 1.1 fi, z- 3 i Q b a s 1 ,- ,ARM ' .1 im rf fx Q if .4 'ij : Q 31? 5, at L fum wr Wyq. g,5,f,xsf g -iw . .1 L! ,x dibii Yr 3 9 i S ' lu. ,ff 44 ' s X M 0-'Im 11 QVLLOP l015LC Qlflff T ...Q 'f ?-'lui-.s..: DALE DAVIS Football 1,2,3,4g Track 1,2,3,4g M Club 3,4g Class President 4g M Club Vice-President 4g Student Council Social Committee 4. We had been awaiting this day for a long time with mixed emotions. We were awed by the mechanics of high school for a while, but we soon got our bearings and became adjusted to our new environment. We elected for our class officers: Iva.n Pagett as President, Nancy Freeman as Vice-President, and Marjorie Wilson as Secretary-Treasurer. Shirley Hays was chosen to reign over us as queen. For our representatives in the Student Council, we selected Vicki Winn, Dana Badgerow, and Martha Bram. Homecoming was a big event in our first year in high school. We built a float, B1ast off to Victory, in our class colors of Royal Blue and White, and chose Nancy Freeman to serve as attendant to the Homecoming Queen. Well, our first year in high school is drawing to a close, and we are leaving temporarily, to return in '59 as sophisticated Sophomores. Dale Clarke, co-captain, back at his peak after the flu bug, plus Ausmus, Amidei, Phillips, Christy and the rest of the Tiger line kept the Trenton team reeling. GLVCQAVLQ The Tigers met Marceline and emerged victorious in what proved to be a thrilling and hard fought game. Defense was the mainstay for both teams with Macon's hard-driving backs being held many times but yet being able to grind out the yardage to win 13-12. The roarin' Tiger line consisting of Ausmus, Amidei, Phillips, Cason and Clarke, kept the threat of Marce1ine's passes down to a minimum and held their rushing backs to a slight 67 yards while the Macon backs racked up 168 yards on the ground. f lfLL0lfL UL 0 It took the Tigers the bulk of the game to turn the key against an undermanned Unionville Midget team, as they scored an unimpressive 21-O conference win to remain tied for first place, Playing before the small- est crowd of the season, Macon acted like good hosts, and fumbled away the ball four times, and incurred 9 penalties, which amasses 106 yards lost, While doing so, however, they also turned in a ground-gaining performance which accumulated 13 first downs while holding the Midgets to 4, and rolled up 216 net yards rushing. The Macon Tigers hung on to the tie for first place in the conference by trouncing Milan, at Milan, by a score of 26-7. The victory seeking Tiger team took the first kick-off and marched to the goal to a lead never to be relinquished. The Tigers scored again and at the half Macon led 12-7. The final half seesawed back and forth until Macon scored twice more and made the final scoring of the night to stand 26-7, with a happy Tiger squad to return home with a 5-1 record. ZZWMJ6! Again during the '58 season the Tigers met a team with a greater will to win and thus took home a win from Macon. Unfortunately, this meant the loss of the traditional Homecoming game andthe conference lead. Macon held all the statistics in their favor except for the score. Two breaks in the first half gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead. In the second half the Tigers decided to take turns and thus never caught the inspired Bulldogs. The game ended with the score 21-13. Cjfaifgcoflze Finally, the Macon Tigers pulled themselves together and downed one of the better teams of this state. This team, Chillicothe Hornets, went down under Macon with the final score 19-6. This win at least assured Macon a tie for second place in the conference standing. The first score was by Donald Cheever in the sec- ond quarter. The PAT was no good and Macon led 6-0, Again in the second quarter Macon scored after Jerry Miller intercepted a pass to retain the ball for Macon. The PAT was good and at the half Macon led 13-0. No more scoring occurred until the final minutes of the game. A Tiger substitute completed a pass for 1VIacon's final scoring. Then Macon kicked off, and the Hornets drove out one TD but failed at the attempt of the conversion for the PAT. This left Macon to return home with another victory of 19-6. However, Kirksville was right back scoring two T-D's in the second quarter and two more in the second half. The Tigers were unable to contain Kirksville's downing attack and had to be content as second best. Glflflfft Ad The Macon Tigers climaxed a successful season ending with a 7-3 record, against top flight opponents when they downed a larger favored Centralia team on the wet Macon field 14-12, in a battle that left the crowd, who braved the weather, breathless and thrilled in seeing the Tigcrs outbattle a good Panther team The Tigers showed that even though they had changed conferences, they still could hold their own in the Quint-City conference as they defeated this year's conference champions with the fighting Tiger line, which ripped through the heavier Panther line throughout the evening, This was the last game for fourteen Senior boys and the nine starting Seniors gave everything they had so that they could leave Macon High with a winning team. ixf 'K 9 Happy Ending!
