Together they work: together they play, And seldom do they become idle. First come the eldest: they are called Seniors, They're called the mightiest ones. Next follow the jolly good juniors Always happy and full of fun. Of course, each school has Freshmen, They take all the teasing and jest. But, heyl walt just a minute! I've left out the very best. Naturally, I'm not prejudiced at all just because I belong to this corps, But I guess we're most outstanding For we hold the rank of Sophomore. We are always very cheery As we work from day to day, Even though we sometimes grumble As we go along life's way. 'Q 0 Homecoming Festivities October ll, 1957 was a day of suspense at Macon High School. The election booths were swarming with students waiting to vote for their choice for queen to reign over the homecoming festivities. The choice favored Miss Wanda Vansickle, a charming beauty with a pleasant personality. Her attendants were: Miss Roberta Barrow and Miss Louise Andrews, Senior attendant: Miss Mary Wright, Iunior attendant: Miss Marianne Jones, Sophomore attendant: and Miss Deanna Maddy, Freshman attendant. The afternoon activities included the Home- coming parade in which each class and club entered a float. Also in the parade rode the Class Queens and the Homecoming Queen and her attendants. That evening was the regular Homecoming Game with Louisiana. Excitement was really raging, and it was with cheers that Macon Tigers pulled ahead of the opposing team. The half-time activities included the crowning of the Queen and the pre- sentation of her gifts. Thus, the 1957-58 homecoming season was ended with a homecoming victory. 90 '5Y,-4 N ,L af ,, . 52 If 3 3Qan'f X It K' 4 .2 -V K ' Q Q fc , 1.21 IPI 'f' 's+f ' A 1, -. , 7 . J 4 ! The Tigers Won and Lost re- cord stood at 7 won, 1 tied, and 1 lost as the season closed. at.,-YV. IARRY PORTER A895-LEW!-S' District Znd team District 2nd team The Macon Tigers opened the 1957 season by downing the Marceline Tigers 20-13 to extend their winning streak to 18 straight games. Although the Marceline eleven used their clever ball handling and superior line play to keep the game close, it wasn't enough to Stop the local Tigers as the sharp blocking of Co- Captain, Larry Porter and Senior Guard, Iames Wray, along with the devastating speed of Co-Captain Linn, who scored 2 TD's, Lewis, Grant, and Don Hicks, Senior speed merchant who scored on a punt return of 70 yds. , more than iced the game. Two streaks were continued on a rain-swept field at Moberly, as the Tigers mudded the Pups to a 31-0 defeat. The Tigers took charge of the game early in spite of a dogged defense by the home team on a soggy, slippery field. Three blocked kicks, two by Larry Porter, and a 35 yd, wrong wayrun spiced the game along with Linn's 60 yd. punt return behind beautiful blocking. RAYMOND CARRIKER cmmtrs wzxixna , it 1 X L ef' E Q n .W x.. DAVID ANGELO JERRY AUSMUS JOHN MACUMBER Homecoming in Tigerland marked the meeting of two undefeated teams, the conference champs and the Louisiana Bulldogs. The big red uncorked a ball that picked up 68 yds. and a 7-6 lead at halftime. Ierry Coulter blocked a would be punt and fell on the hall in the end zone for the score. Larry Porter played his usual terrific game at guard. Linn and Grant drove for the icing points. The Macon Tigers, in spite of the fact that they trailed twice for the first time this season, gathered up their 23rd straight win as they beat the Palmyra Pan- thers 38-20. This was the largest score against the Panthers in 17 yrs. Charles Linn electrified the crowd with a stunning 85 yd. kickoff return for a TD, for one of his 3 tallies, while Monty Grant, who played his finest game all year, scored the other three and played top defensive ball through- out the game. -N Y' ep' ' A B The McCooey game was cancelled due to a flu epidemic. BILL CASON RONNIE PORTER ROY CHRISTY is xx 6' .bf LARRY CRUTCHFIELD LARRY SMITH IERRY DEVINE The Macon Tigers shouldered their first defeat in 26 games as the strong Centralia Panthers ground out a 7-O win at Centralia on a muddy field. The featured battle between Charles Linn of the Tigers and Megown of the Panthers took second place to the clash between two rugged lines. But with Co-Captain Porter able to play only part of the game because of a knee injury, the flu and injury weakened Tigers line failed to have stamina against a much bigger line. Centralia had only one penetrating drive as Linn's toe kept the Panthers at bay with the assistance of 2 blocked kicks, one by Wray and Lewis and the other by Porter. Having the ball deep in enemy territory several times, time ran out with the ball on the Panther ll. An interest- ing sidelight is that the Macon coaching staff was denied theright of a spottertelephone to the coach- ing bench which probably made a difference in the strategy. But win, lose, or draw we feel our Tigers still have one of the greatest teams and group of boys in north Missouri.
