C9110 C9tllC!0I'lt Gonna' The purpose of the Student Council is to promote better understanding between the faculty and the student body. Keeping that purpose in mind, the Student Council has sponsored several worth-while projects this year. 1 . The Boys' Recreation Program, on which the Student Council of 1955-'56 re- ceived the R. K. Oliver Citizenship Award, was continued this year. 2. The President, secretary, and sponsor attended the Missouri Association of Student Council's Workshop last summer at Columbia. 3. Two committees appointed for the interest of the Student Body were the Ethics committee which took care of appointing students to meet the visiting teams and of- ficialsg and the Scrapbook committee which is in charge of keeping a scrapbook of all school activities. 4. Another project sponsored by the Council was the issuing of activity tickets to the student body which admits them to all school sponsored events. 5. Following the Chillicothe game, the Student Council gave a sock hop for the visiting team, students and fans. A good time was had by all. 6. The Student Council devised a new method of electing the Homecoming Queen and her attendants. The change was made in or- der to give all students a chance to vote. The crowning of the Queen was the highlight of the dance, and bracelets were given to the Queen and each attendant. 7. A short narration on the purposes of Student Council was the highlight of the Student Council Installation. The members and officers were installed by Mr. Knapp. The inaugural address was given by the president, Leo Bentele. 8. In keeping with the Christmas spirit, the Council undertook Operation Snowman . The Council committee under the direction of ' Miss Rose Anne Wray, cut and painted a family of snowmen and placed them on the front lawn. The Council also once more sponsored the Christmas door decorations. 9 . To get the second semester off to a good start, the Council decided to have an All-School Dance with a Valentine's theme. Since some students hesitate about dancing, it was decided to have a movie and a tea room in order that everyone will have an enjoyable evening. 10. The administration gave the Council the problem of poor conduct at games. Monitors were appointed to regulate traffic in the halls . 11. This year for the first time, the Student Council sponsored The World Clothing Drive. This drive is sponsored in order to gather clothes for distribution in foreign lands. 12. The Missouri Association of Student Councils Convention was held on the William Iewell Campus, March 15, 16, 1957. Three delegates were elected to attend from Macon along with our sponsor. The working hands of the Student Council are always aware of the welfare of the students and faculty, alike. 21 LEO BENTELE R sxd 'v rl' 7 1 ff! Macon scored 334 points for the season to a lowly 83 points scored by their opponents, gaining 3, 014 yards rushing and 470 yards passing for a total of 3,484 yards gained for the year. 3 inns aa- t-...f s. , A , MACON ATHLETIC FIELD Chuck Linn on his way for one of his many touchdowns. The Macon Tigers opened their 1956 season in an impressive way, winning their first game and letting their opponents know they were on their way. Scoring their first touchdown on their first running play of the season, Linn, behind good blocking, raced 68 yards for a score. Macon's forward wall, led by Darryl Danner, Gene Wilson, and David Teter, played an important part in the Tiger victory. Bobby Lewis picked up several yards and blocked well. Edwards made some nice runs and scored once, while Bentele scored perhaps the fastest touch- down, dashing 70 yards on a quarterback sneak. The Macon Tigers won their second game of the young season against a tough Moberly eleven. Darryl Danner again shone brightly, playing in the opponents' backfield all evening. Ierry Ausmus, Larry Porter, Dave Teter, and Gene Wilson led in defense. Linn scored two touchdowns, Lewis scored while he made a fighting catch against two defenders. Bentele scored a touchdown as he was again all over the field in blocking and on defense. The Macon Tigers were led by co- captains Leo Bentele and Darryl Danner, yeomans at their position. Linn turned in sparkling runs, Donald Hicks, whose defensive tackling staved off a touchdown and an interception which broke the back of the Bulldog. The largest crowd of the season turned out to see the powerful Tigers swamp the hapless Panthers to deal them their first defeat, as they won their thirteenth straight victory. Macon's line again played mag- nificent ball, holding the Panthers to nothing , and paving the way for the Tigers' fine backs. Linn, who played only the first half, scored three of the touchdowns . Bentele and Grant scored the other touch- downs. The entire Tigers' starting team looked good, with the forward wall opening huge holes for the runners, and Macon fleet run- ers, led by Charles Linn, who scored three touchdowns. Leo Bentele, who scored two, Richard Edwards who scored one, and Bobby Lewis, who gained alot of yardage, piled up the scoring too fast for the Sharnrocks . The Macon Tigers set a new record as they stretched their winning streak to l5 games, the longest winning streak in Tiger history, and amassed 557 points, one of the largest totals in Tiger history, as they devastated the LaPlata Bulldogs 57-12 . ,- Y--x,, , in 'ani . C. champions, the Kirksville Tigers, and ground out a decisive 20-0 victory, shut- ting out Kirksville two years straight. The Tigers' starting lineup played most of the game as the Kirksville line was stubborn, and their backs drove hard, but the Tigers' speed, and the vauted play of Danner-Wilson and company in the line aided by Porter, Wray, and Bentele, who played an outstanding game at line- backers, held the Kirksville team in check most of the game. Lewis scored on a re- verse play twice and Linn scored once. Bobby Lewis drops two men as he goes for a touchdown. The Macon Tigers exploded to their 17th straight win, their fifth undefeated season, and their second Quint-City championship, defeating Centralia 45 -6. All of the Tiger team saw action as they earned top honors in their record-breaking performance by scoring more points than any other Tiger team in history. Linn, who finished up the season with 22 touchdowns, scored twop Bentele scored one, Lewis scored two, Grant one, and Miller one. The Tigers squad was the talk of north Missouri, as the precision blockingg the sure, hard tackling, the fine running, the solid defensive line, plus an extra measure of spirit made this 1956 football team the team that it was. 133 Coach gives last minute instructions . lr 1, .14 . i 4 4 1 K .
