PRINCIPAL . . . ADAPTABILITY IN OUR MODERN INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY It is imperative that you, as students and graduates of Macornber Vocational High School, become more adaptable to the various situations you will have to meet and solve for yourself every day. This is absolutely necessary because of the modern trend, the tempo of the times, and the rapid changes taking place in our social economic system. How to adjust yourself, your thinking, and your actions to meet these situations, trends, and changes is what constitutes an educated, happy, contented individual, and should be your concern. You will be faced in the future with many changes in the production and fabrication of both old and new materials, by using better methods, in making semi-finished and finished products. This will require greater manipulative skill and manual dexterity in the solution of these problems: and, this mechanical skill is a valuable asset to possess. As you advance up the ladder to more highly skilled jobs you will discover that they become more technical, more scientific. To hold these jobs in the business and industrial world you will have to become more skilful in applying possess, the better job you should be able to obtain and hold. Technical Skill is of greater importance today than it ever was before, be- cause we live in a scientific age which enables us to produce the highest standard of living ever enjoyed by a people anywhere in the world. I And so, no matter how much manual dex- terity or mechanical skill you have or how qreat the scientific and technical knowledge which you possess, there is a type of skill of equal or greater importance, and that is Social Skill. You must always keep a balance between your mechanical technical skills and your social skills. By social skills, I mean your ability to communicate with and obtain cooperation be- tween individuals and groups of individuals. You live in an ever changing society, therefore, you too must become adaptable for it will prove to be a blessing to you and one of your greatest assets. Social skills result in better human rela- tions, and help you in the fine art of getting along well with other people. Learn well what constitutes Mechanical, Technical, and Social Skills and how to develop and use them in your your technical knowledge and information. The life- 12 M.
