The fresh- men found out the upperclassrnen were just fellow classmates. Soon after school opened the classes got organized and their rnain thought was earn- ing money. The seniors for their class trip, the juniors for the prom, and sophomores and freshmen for the years to come. The football team this year had the best seasons record in many years. They won eight games, losing none and tieing none, to win the Midwest Conference. During all the home games, the band preformed at half-time. IT WAS A TOUCHDOWN WE'VE GOT THE PEP HALT! Cn lnmam SENIUR CLASS PLAY CAROLINE, played by Kathy Inman, was an unusual teen-ager as she didn't like boys, dances, or pretty clothes. Instead, she prefer- red birds and bugs. The boys tried to get her attention by going bird-Watching with her, and made the bet implied in the title. Victory final- ly comes to Ioe, a bashful boy, played by Roger Slusher, in the form of real love for Caroline. The play was directed by Miss Waggoner. r ELSE: FU? Besides managing her men , Maudie decides she must take charge of her sister's wedding. Maudie decides to use her technique to win the best man but somewhere along the line there is a mix-up. For a while, there is a question of whether there will even be a Wedding. A slip of Maudie's efficiency results in a great deal of confusion and amus- ing situations which made for a very enjoy- able play. WE PREPARE QQ? NOW REMEMBER . . . EUR T'V SHOW ONE OF THE BIG EVENTS of the year was the T. V. show. Under the direciion of Mr. Kimpton and Mrs. Cummings, the students worked many OUR SCHOOL FLAG OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM hours practicing. Everyone agreed though, that it was Well worth the iime and effort. FUN AND ENT tl R , I is 673 PENNY CARNIVAL 5.53 ERTAINMENT SINCE THIS WAS TOUR YEAR, the music department had to dream up many brilliant ideas on how to make money. They made money picking up corn, and another money making project was the Penny Carnival. There was everything from weight guessing to a penny-a-vote king and queen contest. The students this year were entertained by many good assemblies. The Wood- stock and Western College Choirs, and the Quincy High School Orchestra, each pre- sented a performance. There were also many groups from within the school that put on assemblies, including the Junior English Class, which put on a program concerning their study of poetry. Macomb was very proud of their basket- ball team this year. They won second in the Midwest Conference: won the County Tournament, but lost to Colchester in the Regional. THGSE HATS ! They have the full afternoon for working in the shop. Their main project this year was rebuilding a 1946 Pontiac. The money from it was used to finance their annual educational tour of auto- mobile industries. The repair of student's and teacher's cars was much appreciated. The class this year has studied carburators, transmis- sions, major overhauling and some work on different- als. Some of the other things they do are trouble shoot- ing, welding, painting, and body work. They are plan- ning on joining the National Vocational Club. HI-Y THE HI-Y is a fellowship and ser- vice club. It's purpose is to create, maintain, and establish throughout the home, school, and community high standards of Christian charac- ter. Living up to this purpose is one of the first requirements for each member. It's activities were carried out under the sponsorship of Mr. Kostas with Roger Slusher as presi- dent. TRI-HI-Y THE TRI-HI-Y, under the sponsorship of Miss Vera Gene Morris, is a sister club to Hi-Y. The purpose of the Tri-Hi-Y is to create and maintain throughout the home, school, and community high standards of Christian character. The slogan for the organiza- tion is pure thought, pure words, and pure act- ions. One of the highlights of the year was the very im- pressive candlelight service for the installation of officers and initiation of new members. Tri-Hi-Y also sponsored a bake sale and held a Mother and Daughter tea in the spring. 1 141 ss X lux tx i I14 Htl N l U N1 KX! 5 l Ill l 'k:,.. BAND THE M. H. S. BAND under the direction of Mr. Dale Kimpton, is an active organization. The marching band preformed at home football games and at one out of town game. Half time shows including a special tribute to Iohn Phillip Sousa's 100th an- niversary and a salute to the Boy Scouts of America were presented. The band again won a superior rating in the Western Homecoming Parade. The concert band presented some very enjobable music in the Pops Concert, and the annual Spring Concert. All members attended the County Music Festival and a few students were chosen to repre- sent M. H. S. in the Western College Honor Band. The Pep Band, a very important group, has helped create spirit during all football and basketball games and pep meetings besides supplying music for different community programs. Under the conduction of their new director, Miss lo Holt, they presented two major concerts: the Christmas and Spring Con- certs. This year is tour year for the music department. They made money by picking up corn, sponsoring the Penny Carnival, and sponsoring a basketball game. They decided to go south this year, making their destination St. Louis, Missouri. The chorus attended two festivals at Western State College dur- ing the year and performed for Graduation. The Executive Council, the governing body of the chorus, is com- posed of the officers of the chorus and a representative from each class. They meet regularly and help Miss Holt in making decisions to problems that come up. C .'- I . ' -' f I .-V, , .5 , rg 49 --+......,,I,,V 4 ,ws L.
