VAfIl?fAllPslDlINllllD 4l3lIl9llllllEn The Vagabonds, the dramatic club, presented ser' eral one act plays for the assembly under the direc- tion of Mrs. Rawlings. The meetings are held the first and third Tuesday in every month. The officers are: President ...... ..... D on O'Harra Vice-President ..... .... M argaret Huston SecretaryfTreasurer ---Charles Zettle '51I5?'Pw00'0f. QfllE5llNlllll4DllR lliDlll9ACY The Senior class ably presented Oliver Gold' smith's best known drama, She Stoops to Conquer. This was the first costume play to be given by Macomb High School in a number of years. It was full of genuine wit and humor. Mrs. Hardcastle was a fussy, dressy old lady, full of oddities and anxious to shine in the fashionable world of London. Her husband was a gentleman in manners and feeling, however, a little behind the times. Mr. and Mrs. Hardcastle's many connubial spats proved highly entertaining. Kate posed as a bar maid to win Marlowe, the man she desired. In this way She Stoops to Conf querf' Tony arranged a plan of his own in which be would free himself of the burden of marrying his cousin, He stole the jewels, justly belonging to Conf stance, and arranged for her to elope with Hastings, thus his mother could not force him to marry her even though he were under age. The tangled web was skillfully unknotted, and everything and everybody were satisfiedveven Tony was made glad by the announcement that he was of age, and entitled to refuse to marry Constance and to come into possession of his fortune. clllllllllNlllll4DllR lIlDlIi9AClf Captain Applejacku was very well presented by the Junior Class. The play takes place in the home of Ambrose Applejohn on the coast of England. Ambrose decides to sell his ancestral home and seek ila adventure and romance but Poppy Faire, his ward, and Mrs. Whitcomb, his aunt, protest. johnny jason, Ambrose's agent, knows that the isolated house would be difficult to sell so he gives a map supposed to disclose the hiding place of the Apple' john's treasure to a notable crook. This map brings to Ambrose Anna Valeska, a Russian dancer with whom he believes himself in love, Ivan Borolsky, a Bolshevik spy, Mr. Pengard, an oriental seer, Mrs. Pengard, and Dennett a police' man. The second act is a dream in which Ambrose is fulfilling his secret ambitiondto be a pirate chief. Ambrose discovers that he loves Poppy instead of Anna Valeska. Ambrose finds an authentic treasure map and Poppy discovers the treasure, a bag of pearls, behind a secret panel in the bookcase. Page 15 M D
