I I SS wm v Sept. 1946: A very attractive group of little tots gathered around Mrs. Grace Yancey in the primary room. Eyes, wide with wonder, gazed upon a new world. These children, timid, half afraid, gradually found their ' places in the Big School and started the twelve year journey. X ' Sept. 1954: Year by year we climbed the educational ladder, grade by grade. The work of the elementary school was finished. The eighth grade commencement was outstanding, the girls were dressed in white, the boys in new suits. Twenty eight received their 8th grade diploma. We look back to our life in the grade school, the teachers were kind and understanding, they helped us when we stumbled and encouraged us onward and upward. Sept. 1954: As freshmen, we were frightened. Everything was strange and different. Instead of one teacher there was the entire high school fa- culty, instead of one class group there was the sneering upperclassmen who seemed to notice all our mistakes, then, the work was so hard that many fell by the wayside. By the close of the 9th grade we had lost, Virginia Bell Holderman, Marion Logue, Donnie Brady, Billy Stumph, Billy White, Betty Hood, Carolyn Settles, Barbara Sallee, Charles lsham, Thelma Mc Michael, Jane lsham, Peggy Ross and Dorothy Settles Sept 1955 At the beginning of our sophomore year there were 17 in our class So distinctly did we remember the treatment given us the year before that we decided to try the same thing on the incoming freshmen We must have been successful for we made them tremble at our power and gasp at our wisdom Sept 1956 The ringing of the school bell revealed the absence of Mary Will Wayne, she had become Mrs Gerald Peavler In November Judy married but continued her school work During this year Louella Hll ton moved away Lorna Ann Hall decided to finish high school an three years William Smock, Gene Noel, and John Hardin stopped school W had one new classmate, Sue Crady Sept 1957 Seniors! Ohl How glorious to be Seniors, but our hearts were agam saddened by the loss of classmates Judy was living in Lexington, Betty Jane had married, Sue Crady had moved away Only two boys and eight girls In lme for diplomas until Angela S Milburn enrolled ln our class Eleven Seniors four married ones, Alfred, Danny, Angela and Judy Seven out of the eleven were first graders in this school Peggy Devine has perfect attendance for eleven years So after years and years of study we reached our goal Together we labored, together we experience the loys of High School Graduation 0'Lfma.. ml. Holidays Senior Play Senior Party Junior Play Baccalurate Sermon Commencement Exercises Last day of School 16155 ill We, the class of l958, in eleven individual and distinct parts ready to pass out of this high school, in full possession of a crammed mind, well--trained memory, and almost super-human understanding, do make and publish this, our last will and testament. To the Faculty we leave the memory of our class, may they think well of us, may they re- member all our outstanding qualifies and forget our shortcomings. To the Junior Class, we leave our patience. It is the only means by which they can en- dure the Sophomores. We leave the Sophomore Class our good luck. It made us what we are today, and it should satisfy them. To the unsophisticated Freshmen we leave what we have learned about the teachers--- which teachers can be bluffed, which are easy and which are hard to please and those whom it is impossible to please. We leave our heartfelt sympathy for the next four years to the students in the eighth grade. Mary Loyce Baker leaves her well known tongue--wagging ability to Lavonne Blacketer. It's guaranteed to run. Carolyn Catlett leaves her privilege to sleep in Government class and never take a test to Randy Mayes. Alfred Taylor wanted to leave his talent for singing, but decided he would need it, so, he is leaving his arguing technique to Violet Shewmaker--you'll need it. Danny Milburn leaves his place at the piano to Darrell Harmon. Music has power to soothe the savage breast. Angela S. Milburn leaves her opportunity to graduate in three years to Joyce Simpson. Norma Bishop leaves Jerry Burns to any one who can get him---she is going to take Harvey. Donna Montgomery leaves her sociology book to Wilna Hall. fOh, she has one alreadyli Peggy Devine leaves her love for basketball and her faithful service as cheerleader for four years to Jane Pinkston. Margaret Anderson leaves her good grades and quiet disposition to Anna Martha Lawson Lillian Smock leaves her ability to talk Mr. Rowland out of a test to anyone who dis- likes his tests as much as she does. - Judy M. Shewmaker leaves her marriage ideas to anyone who cares to use them. The Senior Girls leave their grace and charm to all the noisy, impolite girls in the high school--maybe you'll be more ladylike next year. The Senior Boys leave their enormous appetites to the small, scrawny boys in the high school--you'll be our size some day. The Class of '58, not the largest and not the smallest, is in our opinion, the best class ever to graduate from Mackville High, theretore, we leave our self esteem and senior dig- nity to those who follow in our footsteps. We, the testators, of this will set our hands and seal this twentieth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-eight. fbi If afywl Us-mm is 9-I lily. 5 'T W am . Stroll with me down the corridor to meet each classmate as they arrive. Peggy, a registered nurse, has been living in South America with her hus- band, a noted hysician. At last Mackville will have a doctor and nurse for Peggy and her husband plan to locate in her home town. Here's the best Home Economics teacher that Mackville has ever had. Yes, it is Lillian who selected her life's work after winning the Betty Crocker contest. She h'ies new recipes on her husband - he has been able to endure for years. Donna, a successful operator for Southern Bell, is really in the money now. Recently she won the Voice with A Smile contest. She works in Holly- wood for Jack Bailey. Next is Judy, our youngest classmate. She is an out standing commerce teacher at M H S Judy was a teacher in Lexington until Bud bought a big farm near Mackville No dull moments for Carolyn Secretary for her dad then to New York She and her husband now live in Alaska but VISI'l'S Kentuck frequently W are disappointed we wanted to see her twelve children, ut she decided to leave them with her mother in Cardwell Mary Lois is very happily married, she is a model homemaker, her hus band IS a pros erous farmer, the own a bug farm near Springfield Margaret as made a name or herself in the field of education lust as we thought she would She IS head of the English Department at the Unlver sity of Kentucky Margaret has written three books and is now working on another Lookl A golden Cadillac!
