CLOYD CREACH, Member JUNIOR KILSO, Secretary EVERETI' GOLSTON, Member ! 2 MGCLS Creek public School IQ-5 DON S. EDWARDS, Suporlnhudoni Macks Creek, Miswuri To the Graduating Class of 1956: There comes a time in the lives of all students when that carefreeness that goes with being a student must come to an end and the graduating student must take on the more serious problems and responsibilities of meeting life's problems. I am indeed glad to have had you as students and to have had a part in influencing your lives. I know that my association with you during this year will have had some influence upon you. I certainly have endeavored to make that influence count for the best. Education does not mean only teaching people what they do not know, but it also means teaching them to behave as they do not behave. I know that character, integrity, loyalty, honesty, and the other good virtues, can not be effectively taught. They MUST BE CAUGHT. The teacher must set the example. The teacher can by kindness, by praise, by warnings, by watching, and by preceptg help the student find his proper place in life. I want you to feel that my interest in you goes on through your problems and misunderstandings that you meet in life. Please feel free to always come to me for help in the solution of life's many problems. In behalf of the entire student body, I wish to express our thanks to you seniors who have worked so long and hard in producing this year's edition of nThe Hourglass.n You have done a splendid job in preserving for us the joys and memories of this year's school activities, personal- ities, and academic life, at Macks Creek High School. The best of luck to you always, Jam Q Don S. Edwards, Supt. 4 Qi 4' x .. H ' F 'd 5 -nk 45' fb 1 ww-21 -is- .,., 'if . I ' .. gg. ' 4 e f f ' Q . , 'i' , . 'J PA - A 5-0 ,, A , -. Z. Moulder, Edna Green, Emmett Johnson, Shirley Coffey, Loren Smith, Rosa Willey, Len Hicks, Janice Howard, Herbert Smith, Rose Pennel, Wanda King, Dean Dawson, Wanita Moulder. They chose Mrs. Jessup and Mrs. Odam as their sponsors. Rose Pennel, Rose Willey and Wanda King withdrew from the class at the end of the year. Next they became Silly Sophomores, which was somewhat better than being Green Freshmen. They were happy to have Wayne Winn and John Hooper join their group. Mr. Boswell and Mrs. Kinard were chosen as sponsors and at the end of the year Shirley Coffey, Janice Kerr, John Hooper, Joann Green, Janis Drinkwater, Herbert Smith, Roy Pennel, and Wayne Winn withdrew from the class. Although decreased in number, the remaining members struggled along until they became Lovesick Juniors. The Junior play Hillbilly Weddin was given March 29, 1955, and they gave the Seniors of '55 a banquet on May 3, 1955 using the theme Stars Over Morocco1 ' They chose Leon Ricker as sponsor, and Georgia Kowertz and Evelyn Pack joined the group. Wanita Moulder and Don Linton withdrew at the end of the year. On September 5, 1955 this class finally reached the position of Dignified' Seniors. Richard Eldred and Imogene Moulder joined the group making a total of 23 in the grad- uating class. Mr. Edwards was selected sponsor. They received their class rings, senior pictures, caps and gowns, and finally their diplomas. These past four years will live in their memory as the years in 'which a group of unrefined youngsters were converted into intelligent, courteous citizens, preparing to take their place in the world. Let's make a brief tour of the country and see just what's happened to this outstanding group in the last ten years. First we see Glenda working as a model in the northern part of France. As we are chatting with her, our bus driver appears and it's Jim, in business with his father-in -lawl We know bus drivers get around a lot so we ask him about the other members of the class 4:- ,.. , xx 5 1. As we start across the street we are almost run down by Tommy in his ancient Jaguar, who owns the Hot-Roders-Haven in Chicago. He tells us Richard has just passed by selling Foam-O toothpaste, door-to- door. We continue on and there's Janice, a gym instructor for the Olympic champions in Finland. We inquire about Loren and find he is head mathematician for London and London on Wall Street. In Kansas City we see Von making millions as a jockey for the America Royal and here also is Peggy, vice president for Smith Cough Drops, Inc. We hear that Glessie has just invented an improved freckle-cream and is an Avon Represent- ative. We arrive in time for lunch at Billy Wood's coffee plantation in Brazil and see Carol in Las Vegas, operating a roulette table. We turn on our TV and see Edna, who holds the undefeated title of Miss Universe and Norma, top disc Jockey for Hillbilly Hits. We find Emmett operating a Taxi in Brooklyn and L, Z, running a projector for MGM Studios. As our tour draws to a close we hear that Georgia is traveling abroad and Evelyn is a costume designer for Mademoiselle somewhere in France. We hear beautiful music, and there's Billy Woodall, a famous violinist for a symphony orchestra. Who's this except Robert making records as the world's best deep-sea-diver! And there's Imogene, she is leading attraction of the New, Improveti Ozark Opera. Lastly we arrive at West Point where David has a successful career as a paratrooper instructor. And we end our nip by having a cup of coffee in the Rain-Bow. CLASS WILL I, Peggy Clemmons, will my sweet disposition to Beverly Mackey.
