Valedictory £££ To be or not to be. . . that is a question this class will be faced with in a few short months. ' To be ' is to be true to yourself when considering the role you wish to play in relationship with the world around you. It is a question of really living rather than merely existing. Life should be faced as a challenge rather than a threat. The world has evolved into an era of radical change and revolution. This is the Age of Aquarius -The Age of Enlightenment. The prevalent trend cs today is toward freedom of self-expression. The need to communicate and to relate to others is being deeply felt by youth in their search for being. It is no longer enough to sit back and let George do it. We, the graduating class of 1 970, have completed a phase in our educa¬ tion and are ready to move on to a higher level. We must make the first ma¬ jor decision of our lives: what to do after high school. In choosing our ca¬ reers we must rem-ember that we are an active part in the new revolution with a duty to contribute to society. We, with our new concepts and ideals are the living preparation for the tomorrow generation. We are the element with the potential to fully become. It is true that sixteen of us cannot hope to effect a lasting change in the world. We can, however, grow, not only in experience but also in personal achievement and-development, by being ourselves. One way in which you, the older generation, ean grow, is by accepting and encouraging this change in us. I can, on behalf of the graduands, say that we are not reluctant to leave. We are happy these twelve years have passed and look forward with confidence to the future. However, words cannot adequately express our gratitude and appreciation to our parents for providing us with the opportunity for an education. Also we express our sincere thanks to our teachers for their encouragement and guidance. In parting, I would like to leave you with this thought: It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. With the help of understanding and open-mindedness we hope to challenge darkness by lighting our one candle. -Cecilia Kohlman
