PKW530I3I conpcjmem Of CQS 7 qmm i nap a Once upon a time, one bright June morning, a youth set out to journey on the Highway of Life . There was a spring in his step and a song in his heart. And as the day wore on the youth began to feel a little tired and his step became less springy and his sing¬ ing became less frequent. Finally in the late afternoon the youth longed for a bit of rest. As he turned a bend in the road, he saw that it forked, and on each fork he saw a beautiful damsel. The youth approached one of them and asked her about the condition of her section. This road, said the first damsel, is rough at first; there are no trees to provide shade, there are no brooks and the song of birds is lacking. How¬ ever, after some distance you will emerge upon a broad highway that winds through lush and beautiful country and it will be very peaceful, satisfying and rewarding to journey on it. Come with me and your rew ' ard at the end of it will be great. To miss nothing, the youth them went to the second damsel and asked her about her road. And she answered: Come with me and your days will be filled with a good time. This road is easy to travel on. Life w ' ill be easy and there will be no adver¬ sity or challenges. So the youth went with her. And indeed he did have a good time so much so that he soon became satiated with unrewarding pleasures and his youthful strength and vitality became depleted. In this state the youth came upon an old man with a flowing beard sitting beside this highway. And he asked the old man, What may your name be and what do you do? ' The old man replied, I am a teacher-the best in the world, and the lessons I teach are never forgotten but I exact a very high fee for the lessons I teach. My name is EXPERIENCE. P.S. To learn anything do you always have to have this old man as a teacher? : 4MM earboo L. DuBois J. Wismer P. Johnsrude L. McKinnon J. Greschner G. Gartner M. Colson M. Kloster T. Walch T. Stark I. ' To be ' is to be true to yourself when considering the role you wish to play in relationship with the world around you. It is a question of really living rather than merely existing. Life should be faced as a challenge rather than a threat. The world has evolved into an era of radical change and revolution. This is the Age of Aquarius -The Age of Enlightenment. The prevalent trend _ cs today is toward freedom of self-expression. The need to communicate and to relate to others is being deeply felt by youth in their search for being. It is no longer enough to sit back and let George do it. We, the graduating class of 1 970, have completed a phase in our educa¬ tion and are ready to move on to a higher level. We must make the first ma¬ jor decision of our lives: what to do after high school. In choosing our ca¬ reers we must rem-ember that we are an active part in the new revolution with a duty to contribute to society. We, with our new concepts and ideals are the living preparation for the tomorrow generation. We are the element with the potential to fully become. It is true that sixteen of us cannot hope to effect a lasting change in the world. We can, however, grow, not only in experience but also in personal achievement and-development, by being ourselves. One way in which you, the older generation, ean grow, is by accepting and encouraging this change in us. I can, on behalf of the graduands, say that we are not reluctant to leave. We are happy these twelve years have passed and look forward with confidence to the future. However, words cannot adequately express our gratitude and appreciation to our parents for providing us with the opportunity for an education. Also we express our sincere thanks to our teachers for their encouragement and guidance. In parting, I would like to leave you with this thought: It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. With the help of understanding and open-mindedness we hope to challenge darkness by lighting our one candle. -Cecilia Kohlman urewe moarnt 5 : fflesHPRovycb PHOnt - 753 -JU 5 3 STOP 4 f : puont- 7 3- (ob SCb PWf shoe nmiR 5 yEfljfs of- reliable business CornPLi mm 07 t a. cfucu Jns-i Kancc -pHOTlt: 753-X350 THOPtaim.
