Realty is . . . hiding in the medicine cu pboard when the phone rings on wards and the secretary is at lunch, pretending you don ' t hear the surgeon ' s question while observing in the O.R. watching your first I,M. bounce back at you. communicating with Giuseppi Giovanni for 2 weeks, waving good morning to a blind patient. selling peppermint patties, pens, and raffle tickets all in one week, a 20 page written unit test. when your roommate has to get up at six the day you start classes at nine, waiting for the girl in the next john to leave while she ' s waiting for you. having your arms full and signing in and out. studying varicose veins and realizing that you have all 4 predisposing factors, having your tray full of your favorite meal but no lunch card, eating lunch in 10 minutes so you can watch All My Children . stepping on the elevator 5 minutes late for class and finding all of the buttons pushed, knowing you ' re focus for a peeping -Tom. sunbathing in April, an empty mailbox . getting a note from Miss Rolls that a book you never borrowed is overdue. 74
