The making of Dedications.

Page 20 text:

Dear students, It is my pleasure, on behalf of the nursing staff of Port Colborne General Hospital, to extend congratulations to the 1973 graduating class of the Mack School of Nursing. Your efforts, past, present and future wiU be an inspiration to those with whon:i you come in contact, and to those who follow you. The future role of nursing may well rest with you, Yours very truly, (Mrs.) Livia Payne, Director of Nursing. Education in a School of Nursing or any school of comparable train- ing is not an exercise in cramming, but a flexing of mental muscles to develop their ability to discern and absorb. You do not study to be a nurse, but to know what a nurse has to be. These two years at Mack have been spent with many like yourself who want to be a nurse and with a few faculty friends who know what a nurse has to be It is in this environment of ideas that you have developed your own interpretation of nursing. After Graduation, knowing what a nurse has to be, will be taken for granted, how you will be a nurse is then a personal thing, Florence Nightingale, whose abilities ran the list of public service, is remem bered most of all for the two outstanding qualities — her steadfast- ness of purpose and her compassion for her soldier patients. This above all I leave with you: be a patient nurse and nurse your patient; look upon the sick with compassion and they will heap gra- titude on your name. Be unfailing in your practice and it will re- ward you in many ways. Yours is an honourable profession but only you can bring it honour. Mr. Donald P. Shaw, Chairman of the Mack School of Nursing Committee

I sincerely extend my thanks to those listed on the op- posite page for their help in making Dedications what it is. May I also mention that the name of our book was changed to help give it a deeper meaning. A contest was held and it was decided that Margaret Muir ' s title, Dedications , should be chosen. I hope that now and in future years, you will enjoy reminiscing through Dedications as it is dedicated to all of you. Sincerely, Judy Monteith
