The 1968 election: a Search for truth To Macalester students, the 1968 Presidential election meant campaigning for McWatt, McGovern, or McCarthy. It meant accepting the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy as a reality. lt meant a possibility of ending the war, or the draft, maybe. It meant taking sides, or trying not to.
