Gramenz, Director of Admissions. search and Innovation. Counseling and Testing. Assistant Dean of Students Howard Huelster is concerned mainly with student counseling. Any prob- lem related to the studentis academic life is referred to his office. Under the direction of Dorothy Crirnmell, the Registrafs ofhce prepares student academic files, re- cords grades, schedules classes and generally solves registration problems. The business office directed by Fernam Budolfson prepares and administers the annual budget, student loan funds, tuition contracts, and maintains account- ing records for all funds received and dispersed. Dr. XVilliam Cramenz heads the Oflice of Admis- sions in striving to bring qualiiied students to Macal- ester. This requires a careful screening of the growing number of applicants. The batterv of tests administered to all freshmen as well as the senior comprehensive tests are handled by Mr. Lawrence Young. He thus deals with the stu- dents, abilities, interests, and personalities. john XV. Scale and Iames C. Steeg head the Chal- lenge Program which was begun as Macalesteris re- sponse to the challenge by DeYVitt XVallace to raise ten million dollars in ten years which he would match equally.

Margaret L. Doy, Coordinator of Special Events. sas- ' ss V ' Q s 5 vw' Dr. Maxwell Adams, college chaplain and pro- fessor of religion arranges all chapel and religious confrontation programs, Rev. Alvin Currier, assistant chaplain, helps to estahlish a liason between all church groups. Under the leadership of James Holly, XVeyerhaeuser and Olin Science Libraries continued to expand their services and improve their facilities. The office of Career Planning and Placement, estah- lished at Mac in August, 1966, serves underclassmen as well as seniors. Director of the office, Mr. Donald Knapp, and the Assistant Director, Mrs, Shirley Al- puerto, work in such areas as careers, employment, graduate study and summer job opportunities. Macalester alumni and other interested people are kept informed of the college events and achievements through the work of A. Phillip Beedon, director of Alumni Affairs and Publications. Miss Margaret L. Day, Coordinator of Special Events, is on hand to welcome all distinguished visi- tors to Macalester. Miss Day also helps plan special cultural events.
