Lucius Garvin, Executive Vice President and Provost. o o I John M Dozler Vice President for Financial Affairs Administration Under the leadership of President Harvey M. Rice, Macalester continues to thrive. Dr. and Mrs. Rice are familiar figures around the campus. They are frequent participants in community social events and avid spectators at college athletic contests. Dr. and Mrs. Rice again spon- sored the President's reception for incoming freshmen in the fall. The responsibilities of Lucius Garvin, Executive Vice President and Provost, center around maintaining and in- creasing the all-around excellence of Macalesteris academic affairs. He is in charge of hiring all faculty members. John M. Dozier, Vice President for Financial Affairs is a nativc of North Carolina. Mr. Dozier studied at Duke University as well as the University of Kentucky. His duties here encompass all of the business and fund raising con- cerns of the college. e 'f Harvey M. Sumner Hayward, former Dean of the College. Hayward Resigns ln January Kenneth P. Goodrich, acting Dean of the College. Dr. Sumner Hayward, former Dean of the College, re- signed his post in January to become the first president of the new College of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Dr. Hayward is a graduate of Oberlin College and received his Ph.D. from Brown University in 1952. He was associated with several different colleges before joining the Macalester faculty in 1965. Dr. Kenneth P. Coodrich, chairman of the Macalester department of psychology, was appointed Acting Dean of the College. Dr. Goodrich came to Macalester in the fall of 1965. A graduate of Oberlin College, he took his Ph.D. in experimental psychology in 1959 at the State University of Iowa. He previously taught at the University of Pennsyl- vania and the University of XVisconsin. Dean of Students, Fred Kramer, is concerned with all aspects of student life. His work includes the activities of Community Council, Campus Chest, and Freshman Camp. Sue Lund, Associate Dean of Students, is in charge of all matters concerning women's dormitories, and acts as advisor for the Ott-Campus Women's Board and the As- sociation of VVomen Students. james H. Whipple, Assistant Dean of Students, coordi- nates the activities of all the menis residences.
