erin? . . . NEW ILLUSTRATED COURSE in the l-listory of the Past Two Years at Macalester College, the eventful years from the fall of 1940 to the spring of 1942. Our text, dedicated to Miss Grace Bee Whitridge and reverently in memoriam of Dean Richard U. Jones, will be this biennial, containing a complete pictorial digest of the activities of all the loyal lads and lassies who have attended this college in those years. But before we begin our study it will be necessary to take a 99 course, a survey of the buildings, the faculty, and the administrative staff. For it is only from this background study that one can understand what Macalester has been, what it is, and what it seeks to be. Following this basic survey we take up the major subject of our course, the students and their activities. We see them in their classes, in their societies, clubs, and student organiza- tions. We follow them to their music groups, to their social affairs, and to their athletic events. Finally, we will study them at their leisure-spare moments when they don't know anyone else is around, when they get together with other students or faculty for their favorite pastimes. All the required reading material is contained in this one book, but it is hoped that what is recorded here will act only as source material, serving to recall much that is not found in this short history. The purpose of the course is to enrich the memories of adventures in self-realization, in cooperative experience, and in the cultivation of the art of thinking in which each student has taken part, making this book possible. .ZLL of Konfenfd
