Dr. Henry E. Busche retired this spring. Dr. Busche has conducted concert choir, concert band, stage band and numerous ensembles during this time. In addition to the many honors Dr. Busche has received, he was named an outstanding educator of America in 1974. It was another fine season for the 1977 Mac- Murray soccer team. The Clan hooters finished the season with a 7-8-1 record, but managed to capture their third consecutive Illinois-Indiana Collegiate Soccer Conference Title with a 5-0 record. In addition, the Highlanders were se- lected for the fifth consecutive year to partici- pate in the N.C.A.A. Division III post season tournament. The women ' s tennis team finished their season with an impressive 5 win NO loss conference recordi a narrow 5-4 victory over rival Quincy College highlighted the season. This year. The highlight of the season occured on Halloween night when host MacMurray College defeated a strong Greenville team in three games. This was followed by a decisive two game victory over Quincy College. The incident has since gone down in the MacMurray history books as the Pumpkin Pie and A La Mode epi- sodel Mac also finished third in the District tour- nament and second in the Greenville tourna- ment. Highlander bagpipes and the band perform. This year some of the members of the MacMurray Com- munity were subjected to the drinking booth, while others sold peanuts, taffy apples, and hot dogs. Of course, the soccer team emerged victori- ous and the queen and her court beamed rapturously, the capstone of a perfect fall afternoon. 203 Madrigals Madrigals has become a MacMurray Christmas time tradition. McClelland Hall is decked with evergreen boughs, singers and dancers are clothed in 16th century dress, and diners feast in hearty English fare. 205 As much as we may love it here, the need to get away from it all was met in a variety of ways. During January Term students were given the opportunity to travel in Europe, while a canoe trip was organized in the spring. The magic of Greece, Italy, Germany, England, and France was exper- ienced as students and instructors traveled throughout. Friends were made, and new lan- guages as well as self-sufficiency was learned. The canoers also experienced encounters with rapids, overturned canoes, and wet sleeping bags on cold, windy nights.
