Dedication to a Dedicated Man We proudly dedicate the 1967 CREST to the late General Douglas A. MacArthur, who himself was a man of great dedication. For almost a century, the name Douglas MacArthur has greatly influenced military and world history. During his brilliant and eventful military career, he served his country in every major conflict of this cen- tury. He commanded numerous fighting units, including the only one to take part in nuclear warfare. Because of these military commands, MacArthur held awesome power, but he never used it for its own sake or for his own enjoyment. Instead, this power was used solely to protect or to win human freedom in which he so strongly believed. Douglas MacArthur was an extraordinary human being. He possessed great vision, knowledge, integrity, endurance, and courage. His personal attributes were so vast that Herbert Hoover once called him the great- est combination of statesman and military leader since George Washington. To the ordinary American, MacArthur was a remote, stern figure. Yet in private relationships he was a man of great warmth and personality. It is for this great American that our high school is named. Yet we owe General Douglas MacArthur more than a name for our school. We owe him all honor and respect, for he played a vast role in preserving our freedom and democratic way of life. .
