MAHISCAN PRESENTED BY THE MABTON HIGH ANNUAL STAFF T963 - T964 15 FOREWORD To the young people of our world, education is a possession without price. The future will demand more from us than other generations. Our high school is a place for us to prepare for the challenges of the world we will help to form. A world more tolerant and peaceful than the one we live in today. Young people, we believe, can, and should, have fun while they learn. It shouldn't be all drudg- ery and misery. We hope you will recall some of the gaiety of youth as you leaf through these pages in times to come. We hope these few pages will help you recall the score of the big game, our Prom Queen, the way girls do Chemistry experiments, the rush for the lunch line, and perhaps that very special girl or boy. Some day you will look back through these pages and remember that while you were here our hearts were truly young and gay. TABLE OF CONTENTS Foreword . Dedication . . Administration . Faculty . . DEDICA TICDN To Mr. Dallas Daddy Finch, a man of many and varied talents. We would like to dedicate this annual to a man who has done so much for the school that we find it hard to express our gratitude in Words. Mr. Finch has built our music department from nothing to an or- ganization which will enrich our lives for many years to come. Who will ever forget his very entertaining and humorous band concerts or his eloquent use of our language in his instructions, such as: Back in your hole, rat! or the way he runs his band class: This isn't a democracy, it's a dictatorship and as band director, l'm the dictator! Mr. Finch has been an inspiration and help to all of us. To Mr. Dallas Finch, we dedicate the 1964 Mahiscan. Jessica wanted to become a wrestler, Mary wanted to marry handsome Joe Laconi, and his wife wanted to take a trip. Mr. Morlock was far too busy making money and having pains to pay any attention to his family. He only cared about them to the extent that no daughter of his was going to marry a pauper! Joe's father, Mr. Laconi, believed that young people should marry for love. When he tried to convince Mr. Morlock of that fact, they proceeded to go round and round. Mr. Laconi's weak heart could not take it. Mr. Morlock took an overdose of sleeping pills. Mr. Laconi then came to haunt Mr. Morlock. Lucifer, from the lower regions, came to take Mr. Morlock where he was going, and through a series of comedy episodes, Mr. Morlock realized that he had been a horrible father. He pleaded for just one more chance to prove his love for his family when he was awaken- ed by Mildred the maid. ALL HIGH PLAY SENIOR PLAY TERROR IN THE SUBURBS Marsha Cloud suspects that her famous scientist husband did not die a natural deathg that he was poisoned by his ex-wife, Hannahg who is a communist spy. She spirits his body away to an old house in the suburbs of Washington to await the results of a post-mortem, and the place erupts into a mad-house of terror and utter pandemonium with bodies appearing and disappearing mysteriously and murders, or attempted murders, com- mitted hourly. But the crazy old-maid, Teresa, and her sister, Loretta, along with the help of the house's frightened, but unsuspecting guests, manage to clear up the mystery and capture Hannah and her conspirator, George Mollison. It is only then that it becomes known that Teresa is not really insane, and that she and Loretta are F. B. I. agents. SENICDR PLAY JUNIOR - SENIOR CARNIVAL PRCDM QUEEN PROM The Junior-Senior Prom, Tender is the Night, was highly successful. The colonial setting was enjoyed by all as was the music by the Red Coats of Yakima. Those in attendance considered the '64 Prom to be one of the best ever. Linda Mitchell was chosen Queen of the gala af- fair and graciously reigned over the evenings activities. PROM BANQUET MENU Roast Turkey and Dressing Whipped Potatoes and Gravy Savory Green Beans Cranberry Sauce Tossed Salad--Italian Dressing Lemon Crunch Dessert Coffee Milk Relish Tray MOTHERS' TEA The annual Mothers' Tea was held in the Multi-Purpose Room April 28, 1964. The mistress of ceremonies was the FHA Pres ident, Auton Bender. Commentators were Serena Hoptowit and Cherie Templin. This year's theme was Memories and it proved to be very fitting as the girls modeled their various articles which brought back memories of functions held in the past years. The Freshman girls sang Darkness In The Delta, Over In Killarney, and Coming In On A Wing And A Prayer. The Senior girls sang Catch A Falling Star, and Vaya Con Dios. SENIOR DAY PROGRESSIVE DUNNER Twenty-six members of the Senior class attended the Progressive Dinner. The dinner began at Serena Hoptowit's home where all enjoyed a delicious fruit cocktail. Next, the Seniors traveled to Carolyn Grow's house, where tossed salads and various dressings were served. They then journeyed to Gordon King's home on the hill. Here they were served the main course consisting of baked ham, baked potatoes, peas and carrots, rolls and butter, and iced tea or milk. For dessert the Seniors traversed to the home of Phyllis Bush. Lemon Meringue was graciously served here, topping off their evening of eating and fun. The food was delicious and the Seniors very much appreciated all the time and effort exerted by their Mothers. FAREWELL So ends the Mahiscan 64 . In the preceding pages lie some of our fondest memories, and some We're not so fond of. We didn't give our complete bodies and souls to the advancement of higher learning, though our teachers would like to think their inspiration led us to such lofty efforts. It's been fun hasn't it? We're a little older now and perhaps just a wee bit wiser too. As we, the All Mighty Seniors, leave flike the walls and halls of MHSy just a little older and a little worse for wear, we will depart with the knowl- edge that the incoming Seniors will carry on in the tradition that has been established by the preceding graduating classes. As you leaf through the pages at some future date, try to re- member all the fun and good times we had in our years of learn- ing. May your hearts be always young and gay.
