By MARY LOUKIDES, january '49 Have you ever thought of what living conditions would be like fifty years from now? Just imagine yourself in an ultra-modern city with all the latest inventions and gadgets. i've often thought of the future as being an era of make-believe. I can picture students hurrying to school every morning with the greatest enthu- siasm, and why not? All they have to do is hop into their private airplanes and talce off for school. There will probably be special landing fields on the rooftops of the buildings so they may parlc their planes. As they enter the school building there will be electric-eye doors which open and close automatically to prevent over- exertion from attempts to open those heavy doors. Of course, the students wouldn't think of walking up a liight of stairs when the escalators would be so much more convenient. School worlc can be so interesting, especially when there are so many substitutes for the textbooks. imagine watching television in the classroom for a lesson, watch- ing history as it occurs, or motion pictures to review past history! Do you remember how we complained about having to carry those heavy, clumsy books? Well, they will probably be replaced by microfilm which the students can carry in their poclcetsl Then there are the push buttons. When it gets too cold you push a button and the window closes, or if the sun bothers your eyes, you push another button and out slides the curtain. If you're ever caught with your arms full and you can't open the closet door, step on a button on the lioor and before you can say Open Sesame you can dispose of your bundles with no trouble at all. lt's fantasticl To think that in just fifty years there will be such a revolutionary changel When we think baclc to the good old days when -H it will probably be lilce a dream of the past, forgotten through the replacements of new and better inventions. You may shrug your shoulders. but, it may happen! DREAIVIING By RUTH FULDER, january '49 As l was lying in my bed As l paraded through the halls Viv mind went blank to daily fears: I heard a voice from somewhere near. l had a dream about our school It was the former Tobie Webber. who was As it would be in fifty years. Talking of fashions in tones bright and clear The building was in modern style: lVlen's trousers look so dashing. padded The rooms were changed, all freshly painted: And anlcle-length hair shapes the face: There was no line at luncheon time. The hats with plumes are just divine: imagine thisli nearly tainted. Fifty years baclc, clothes were a disgracel Please, dear reader, itis just a thought. 5 lyly mind went blanlc to daily fears: l had a dream about our school As it would be in fifty yearsl
