CLASS HISTORY UNE, Regenls, Commencemenl . . . and lhen we, lhe class of '4I, will become bul anolher lisl of names in a dusly file, anolher seldom-seen yearbook on lhe library shelf, a hazy aflermalh in lhe minds of lhe facully, soon lo be forgollen by one and all. However, lhough we may be forgollen, we will nol forgel, for, besides lhe educalion we came lo oblain, we are laking away some- lhing else . . . memories. Pleasanl, happy, biller, and sad ones: lhe menlal accumulalion of four years of experience ever lo be al our command. Memories . . . lhal Freshman year . . . lhe very firsl day . . . slanding in lhe assembly, wailing and wondering. The process lhal followed, gelling ac- cuslomed lo high school. The feeling of pride when we learned lhal ours was lhe largesl class lo enler M.H.S. The paying of lhe lhree shining quarlers and lhe receiving of lhe long lan smocks. Wilhoul much lrouble we gave anolher coin for lhe G.O., and come lo lhink of il, we were mighly proud of lhe card. We lreasured lhal lillle card. The day we received our firsl Chrislmas lunch, -il made us feel lhal school was a wonderful place. ll was aboul lhis lime lhal Helen Ramoin was Represenlalive, lhe highesl sludenl governmenl office in lhe Annex. Wilh all our lillle lroubles, we were kepl in lhe besl of humor by Rulh Henlschel and Lola Scaglione. Memories . . . Sophomores . . . iusl as we were gelling accuslomed lo lhe Annex, we reluclanlly had lo pack our few belongings and move bag and baggage lo lhe lowering main building. Bewildered and gaping, we walked wilh our green program cards in our han-ds llhe color suiled usl. ll was al lhe beginning of lhis evenlful year lhal we were joined by many more bewildered junior high school sludenls. Memories . . . Juniors now . . . The feeling of class dislinclion as we lorded il over lhe lowly frosh. By now many were accuslomed lo lhe school and ils ways. We did our lillle parl in lhe new school aclivilies which were slarled during lhis year. A new club came inlo lhe limelighl, lhe Travel Club, founded by our fulure Senior adviser, Mrs. Reich. ll was during our Junior year lhal lhe Seniors organ- ized for lhe lirsl lime. A mighly slrange column by one of lhe Juniors appeared in The Pioneer : a female Waller Winchell was slealing lhe privacy of lhe sludenls. A small limid girl was slarled well on a career of wriling by winning a conlesl sponsored by Mrs. Judd. Pauline Schillone was lhe shy lillle miss who won a copy of one of Mark Twain's books. One of lhe unlorgellables was M.H.S. day al lhe World's Fair. How could we lorgel? Memories . . . Al lasl, Seniors . . . Women and scholars . . . The donning of lhe blue smocks, lhe all imporlanl evenl of lhe Senior year. Our firsl Senior meeling, where we elecled blonde Helen Kosinar as our presidenl. Can anyone forgel lhe day we walked lo have our chesls X-rayed, or lhe day we froze lo see Presidenl Roosevell pass our school? ll was iusl aboul lhis lime lhal we hil upon a new and original idea. Somelhing lhe school never had before. Senior caps in lhe school colors, made of blue fell wilh brighl yellow fealhers. We wore lhose lillle caps wilh more pride and poise lhan we would have worn one of Dache's lalesl crealions. However, our lighl spirils were dampened somewhal when we realized lhe responsibilily lhal resled upon our shoulders. As one of 44
