Harper Band blew the walls down ... a visit by the WHCN Walrus was the highlight of the concert. .. prom planning began . . . a $100 deposit was made for Zandri's Stillwood Inn . elections were held again . . . President Wes Schouten, Vice-President lean-Pierre Bolat, Treasurer Kirsten Lackstrom and Secretary Kathy Hughes . . . Finals . . . and this summer we were finally among the ranks of UPPERCLASSMEN!!! The team had three representatives on the All- Housy team, Alan Stokes, Herb Rivera and Will Fritz. Stokes led the team in homeruns with four. No doubt he will be missed along with seniors Rivera, Tom Pavlick, Tom Cersz and Dan Duffy. But the prospects are bright for this season. Paul Sherwill, who led the team in triples, and Fritz, who held the highest batting average, along with this year's seniors Craydon Godfrey, Mark Hatje, Bruce Sperry, juniors John Escoto, Mike Cohen and Jeff Mihalek are all returning. Sophomores are Mark Bencivengo, Mike Fritz and Mike Sgambatti. The GIRLSâ SOFTBALL team suffered through a series of injuries and other problems to end with a 4-14 record last year. Unfortunately, no girls were named to the All- Housy team. The graduation of captains Anna-Rose Melillo, Lori Masterson and Nancy Thornton, as well as seniors Stephanie Wenchell and Lisa Gerson, leaves the team with prospects of another rough season ahead. Coach Dick Schroeder will look to seniors Jan Krol, Lynn Camolli and Carrie Duprey to lead this yearâs team. Also returning are three experienced juniors Robin Pulit, Kathy Fritz and Beth Fergusson. The 1982 season was only the se- cond for the Sheehan GIRLSâ TENNIS team. Led by captain Lisa Karlon, the team captured several victories. The individual records of the team members were very im- pressive. Coach Delores Caffery will miss Karlon, Michele DeGennaro, Debbie Grady, Carolyn Brown, and Maureen Merski, all lost to gradua- tion. The only returning senior will be Laurie Morrissey; Nico Vullo, a foreign exchange student from Italy, promises to be an asset to the team. Penny Rutcho and Donna Lip- can will also return for the â83 season. 102 Sports The BOYS' TENNIS TEAM wound up a disap- pointing season 2-12 in the Housy and 2-14 overall. This year the team will attempt to replace five seniors lost to graduation: Mike Hass, Bill Belcourt, Ed Bohnwagner, Paul Parker and A.F.S. student Karl Waremberg. Senior Greg Lyons will likely hold the top shot on the team while sophomores Craig Odermatt, Rob Gerson, John Ritskowitz and Stu Schouten are the only other experienced returners. The GOLF TEAM fared well last year, capturing the Housy title with a league record of 13-0-1 and an overall record of 18-3-1. The team ranked 2nd in the state Division II. Two seniors, Sal Liguore and Bill Mahon, were voted to the All- Housatonic team and will be sorely missed. However, Coach Schlottman looks for an excellent season this year with the return of senior Tim Stilson, juniors Paul Thomas, Craig Piper, Kurt Bauman and Bill Fazzino, and sophomore Dave Tiedemann. Despite outstanding individual performances, the GIRLS' TRACK TEAM could manage only a 3-5 record in the Housy league and a 3-8 record overall. Senior captain Mary Moynihan led the team, qualifying for the sectionals in four events and advancing to the states in the shotput and discus. Sophomore Kim Brown also went to the states in the 400m dash. The nucleus of this year's team will be senior Carolyn Marks, juniors Mary Ellen Roy, Jennifer Simler, and sophomore Kim Brown, all of whom qualified for the sec- tionals last year. Last year's BOYS' TRACK TEAM started off the year as defending league co-champions but, after dropping disappointing losses to East Haven, Amity and Cheshire, wound up third. Their 6-3 league record was com- plemented by an 8-4 overall record. Five Titans were members of the All-Housatonic team â senior John Powers and the 4x400m relay team of senior Steve Pesta and juniors Bill Schuster, Paul Sorota and Larry Bencivengo. These same five also advanced to the State Open Meet. With the return of Bill Schuster (last year's top scorer), Paul Sorota, Larry Bencivengo and outstanding freshman Harvey Stanley, the Titans have the basis for a strong team this year. Encounters vary from friendly, helpful guides to viscious, man-eating creatures. Most encounters take place either in wilderness settings or in vast dungeons. Characters enter these settings in search of monsters, treasures or while on a quest, such as to rescue a fair damsel, to conquer evil, to halt injustice, and even to irritate the Dungeon Master! The boys' football team suffered a loss to the crosstown Lyman Hall Trojans by a 12-0 score and the senior girls also took it on the chin, being defeated by their counter- parts at Lyman Hall 20-6. Homecoming activities started on Tuesday with the Student-Faculty Volleyball Game sponsored by the Student Council. In a surprising upset, the freshman class defeated the juniors. The senior class handily downed the sophomores. In the match-up between these two winning classes, the seniors came out on top to face the faculty. Once again senior power ruled and the Class of 1983 defeated the faculty of Sheehan High. Wednesday was school color day as well as the day of the Pep Rally. After the pep rally, students were dismissed on a half-day schedule. The Lyman Hall senior girls came over to our Hope Hill field and took a victory from us. A highlight of the game was the touchdown return made by our own Jan Krol. She took the ball for 70 yards and headed straight down the field for the first score of the game. The Titan girls couldn't hold on, though, and the Trojans won at the end of the contest set- ting up the Turkey Day Classic to be played at Lyman Hall's Fit- zgerald Field. The Sheehan boys played the Carini Bowl game on a very cold morning. The Titans, under the coaching of Andy Borelli, couldn't muster enough offensive action and were rendered scoreless throughout the game. The Titan defense was a good match-up for the Trojans, as we kept them to just 12 points. Although the Carini Bowl went to Lyman Hall, our junior John Caruso received a plaque for best defensive player and senior Kevin Comerford received the offensive award for best player. 164 Activities s 91 sajiiAipy SPIRIT WEEK Activities 167 168 Activities Activities 169 hJ O O E U CD m CD D 2 As the laboratory exponent for the child development course, the Nursery School is in session one month each semester in December and May. Price Superintendent of Schools, Retired A true gentleman in an era when most of us yearn to find courtesy and understanding in those around us, Mr. Price has always had the ability to make people feel at ease and important about themselves. Hundreds of Wallingfordâs students and teachers have been inspired by him. Next to the importance of inspiring improvements, Mr. Price is most proud of his curricular contributions to the instructional program, particularly the high school program of studies. The standards for graduation, the quality of course offerings and the vocational educa- tion opportunities here at Sheehan are in great measure due to his leadership. John Price has left a legacy for which he shall not be forgotten. Superintendent 185 ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM Kelly Semerick and Robin Smith prepare for a chemistry experiment.
