6 -SPORTS Up and in. The PREPPERS wound up their 1957-58 season with a 10-15 record, included among which was a four and two record in the Freeland Conference to give them a tie for the championship in that loop. The Mining five opened their season slowly, losing all but one of their games, to powerful opposition in most cases. The PREPPERS were only able to muster two wins in the first half race of the Anthracite League, one of which was a crushing defeat of Foster Town- ship. Then our boys started rolling. We beat McAdoo for the fourth straight time on our home court, 66-62, and then proceeded to break the West Hazleton jinx, 62-57. The PREPPERS ran off five straight victories to earn a tie for the Anthracite League and Freeland Conference. The first of these victories was over Marian Catholic, who had beaten us previously. Then we secured revenge for a one-point loss to Hazle Township. Arch rival Freeland High fell victim, as did White Haven in the last few seconds. The PREPPERS rounded out the regular season by slamming Foster 81-70, and thereby --breaking that jinx. But as in many years past, M. M. I. had to be con- tent with being the bridesmaid. Successive losses to Freeland and McAdoo left us without a title. But we did have the distinction of sharing with McAdoo the honor of having beaten every team in the circuit. Not one escaped the fury of the PREPPER onslaught. M. M. 1. can look forward to a fine team next year, as ours was a year of building. Almost ! Saddler Well's Ballet
