Several students participated in the cadet teaching program which was started.secomdsemester. The program was designed to give the student a better insight into teaching and prac- tical experience. On September 21, three members were elected to district offices at the district con- vention at la.PorteCity: Linda Moon, Vice President: Carol Olson, Secretaryg Joyce Clements, Historian. Dan Schultz was also chosen as a candidate for state treasurer. On November 9, a computer dance was sponsored by the FTA. Because it was the first of its kind given here,a,large crowd attended and enjoyed'their'Upunch-card.part- nersu for the evening. Dan Schultz campaigned for the office of state treasureadzthe Iowa State Univer- sityin Ames on March 2U,MaryJo Engelhardt was his campaign manager. Although Dan's opponent won the office, M-F-L was well represented, Twenty-four students and three teachers traveled toAmeson March 23 to attend the convention. Cheer ea. ers All zest! The varsity cheerleaders are chosen in the spring of the year by the student council and a committee of the faculty. On the basis of ability and personality, nine girlsare selected from those trying out from the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Thejunior varsity cheerleaders are chosenixmthe fall by the same group. Only freshmen and sophomores are eligible , and five girls are selected. The responsibilities of the cheerlead- ers are to promote and create school spirit and good sportsmanship.
