The government gave the school four cents per meal along with some smwplus foods, such as meat, butter, cheese, and flour. The three years he spent at M-F-L High School will be remembered especially by his classmates. The girls' track squad sent five girls, Jennifer Beisker, Pat Kruse, Donna Scheffert, Jacque Wiethorn, and Bernice Sanger to the State Track Meet in Des Moines. These girls ran in the N10-yard relay, 440-yard medley relay, and the 320-meter shuttle relay, which received qualifying ratings at the District Meet. The cheerleaders helped to increase the school spirit by leading the student body :Ln cheers. Mrs. Gerald Frye, the first Homecoming Queen, of Monona-Farmersburg, was one of our honored speak- ers. Kathy Freilinger, 1963 Homecoming Queen, Ronnie Miller, a businessman and former football player, and Eddie Parker, a member ofthe football squad, all gave encouraging pep talks. 'Ihe evening festivities started with the Queen and her attendants driven through the band formation while 'Sweet Heart of Signa Chi' was played. Queen Janet was then presented her traditional dozen long-stemmed roses by Don Scheffert President of the Student Council. The Homecoming game then followed, which was played against Dyersville. It was a very hard fought game, but the Bulldogs were unable to come through with a victory. R0 ALT Y The King and Queen led in the traditional Homecoming Dance which brought the 1961+ Home- coming festivites to a close. The dance was engoyed by everyone. Following the football game Queen Janet crowned King Don in the gymnasimml. This is the eighteenth division I the band has received in nineteen years. In view of this record, the band was invited to be a guest band, along with eleven other high school bands and three college bands, at the Iowa Bandmasters Convention held in Mason City on May 28. The band also participated in many activities at home. The marching band performed on Veteran's Day at McGregor, at football games, and on Memorial Day. Each Friday night during the surmner, the members faithfully met to present a concert to the people of the community. This annual social event took place on May 12. The ban- quet was at St. Patr1ck's Parish Hall. The tables were beautifully decorated with minia- ture palm trees and pineapples. The ladies of the Rosary Scoiety prepared the meal, ani sophomores selected by the junior class served as waiters and waitresses. The prom followed the banquet in the M-F-L High School gymna- sium.
