Henry Fabre It is a privilege seldom awarded to those seasoned with years to indulge in that rare occupa- tional hazard of advising with youth. I would not be different from the mass by neglecting this favorite pastime of those who place themselves in that alchemy of a doddering age. All of us at some time in life will search for the silver lining on the road of life. In this conquest of the fleeting myth, you may be inclined to search in the greener pastures over the misty hills, for the greenness of the grass beyond 'the fence is proverbial. The Happy Valley seems always to lie over the next ridge. An ever-recurring fallacyis the belief that we have only to move to leave our troubles behind, that somewhere else we will be different and life will be interesting. But as the wisdom of the East has it, They change their skies but not themselves who cross the seven seas. You that are young in years must soon know that everyone of us has to walk Life's Road --- every yard of it -- to the very end. There's no hitch-hiking along any part of it. The happiest men I have known have been those who found their pleasures in simple things. If you can believe that all about you are undone things that await your doing -- plain simple things to make happiness and pleasure for you and your friends -- if you can make your world a brighter, happier place to live -- even though it be your own back yard -- then you will come to know the real value of a way of life for you. And, in truth, if we find nothing of lasting interest where we are, we are likely to find little of lasting interest where we wish to go.
