IN MEMORIUM TO DALE RICHARD WILLIAMS (1948-1964) To the memory of a fine classmate and friend to those he knew. He was a hard working class member and also a very outstanding athelete. TO OUR PARENTS for seeing that we were equipped both physically and spiritually; TO OUR TEACHERS for not only extending to us the facts of education, but also provid- ing the inspiration for us to accept and use these facts; TO OUR COMMUNITY for providing the school facilities and supporting us in all our ac- tivities; We extend our graditude for all assistance in the past and hope that we can in some way pass on this assistance to others. 1 A(?Z sy.v Speed au '9 Simplified CHEMISTRY School Board From left: Pat Simon. The motives for attending school have been to enhance abilities, become more enlightened and to become better citizens of the fu- ture. Now it will be the duty of the graduates of this school to answer the question Why were we here? It is presumed the basic reasons were for good citizenship and pro- gress toward living a better life. 6 Principals L-CHS HIGH SCHOOL MR. BORER Vice-President The merging of the Lyons- Chesterfield school districts made our senior year unique from that of any previous grad- uating class, in that we have brought about a fusion of tal- ent, personality, spirit, and most of all friendship. We sadly bid adieu to the cher- ished memories bestowed upon us by our ever-faithful Alma Mater. Never again shall we hear the wind softly whispering through the study hall windows or the eruption of steam from the radiators. Farewell yon creaking stairs and omniscient SRA. We bid you a fond farewell. 16 LINDA R HINKLE CHARLES W. Now a fantastic reading program has been introduced to increase comprehension and speed. This same program has been extended into the high school. New math is now being taught in the first and second grades, but will be extended into the third grade as the pupils advance. Other grades are only being given an introduction to the new math. Each year grades five through eight participate in the Fulton County Spelling Bee sponsored by six Fulton County newspapers. This stimulates the student's interest in spelling. Since I960 our school has been participating in the Amateur Athletics Union's Physical Fitness Program. The first year only 41 students were able to pass the tests, but last year 139 obtained certificates. A goal of 200 completions was set for this year. Phy sical Fitness Tests will not in themselves make a boy or girl physically fit, but they will pro- vide the incentive and the challenge for improvement as they match themselves against standards and are brought face to face with their shortcomings. Lyons is very proud of the fact that for the past five years we have won the county grade school track meet. Children caught in the act of being them- selves. 39 Eighth Grade Cheryl Bourn David Brandeberry Steven Brink Philip Coleman Jill Myers Jane Nofziger lye No Crystal Pultz George Quaintance Nancy Rupp William Tuggle Terry Wyse m % -s J Tracy Curtis Keith Grant' James Huffman Susan Jackson Ruthann Jones Debbie Keezer Janet Kinsman Susan Lantz Marty Lee Julie Markley Susan Markley John Marks I Seventh Grade Jackie Baumgartner Cynthia Bourn Mary Jane Buckley Alan Colon Larry Drayton Susan Garrow Gary Gibbs Nancy Grant Roy Hendricks Eddie Keezer Mike Ketring David Lantz Carol Ledyard Robert Lee Dennis Lowe Debbie Miller John Myers Ralph Reckner Gail Simmons Sharon Suydam Roy Thrailkill Linda VanDeylon Connie Wentz Terry Willeman 41 Sixth Grade 42 Randy Allwood Paul Andre Randy Brandeberry Carol Bovee John Burkholder Dee Carr Pamela Clark Teresa Downing Lucie May Drayton Linda Dulaney James Ehrsam Alice Gillen Donny Hallet Cheryl Ham Roger Hartman Fred Keizer Joyce Kennedy Jim Kime Eddie Kinsman Tim Meeker Linda Mossing Ron Quaintance Bruce Reckner Denise Sparks Kevin Stong Kim Wentz Duane Wyse Fifth Grade Merri Ann Berk David Borer Eddie Christenson Wesley Clark Kathy Clymer Hoilyn Dietrich Robert Dulaney Shelley Eckel Ronald Ehrsam Debra Frantz Cindy Gallant Diana Gillen Steven Gillespie Kathy Huffman Susan Lako James Lantz Larry Ledyard Linda Lowe Sandra Markley JoAnn Melbourne Randy Momyer Mark Powers Richard Suydam Deborah Taylor Steve Wanner 43 David Willeman Gary Valentine Fourth Grade Lawrence Baldwin Sandra Bourn Louise Drayton Panela Hhrsam John Garrow Fritz Huber Jeffery Johnston Kimberly Keefer Deborah Ketring Sandra Lantz Larry Lee David Link Martin Lowe Judy Marks Rebecca Martin Michael Nofziger Sandra Pfund Cheryl Quaintance James Reckner Stanley Stutzman Danny Wyse ABSENT: Pamella Caudill 44 Third Grade A 'J Lola Armstrong Donald Borer Marcia Borer KathyJo Bovee Betty Brink 4 ■ L Nancy Colon Ricky Coopshaw Debra Dopp Kathy Dulaney Lynne Frantz Anita Garrow Rita Goddis Paul Holman Debbie Johnston Kathleen Johnston Keith Jones Barbara Keezer Ronald Kuney Kathleen Lantz Darleen Lowe Cathy May Randall May Gary Pennington Edward Pike Daniel Powers Peter Rupp Neil Simmons Cheryl Smith Ricky Snider Marie Stites Kathleen Stubbins Susan Yaney 45 Studies And Activities Keep Students Busy In the fall of 1965, only the kindergarten and students in the first eight grades were attending Chesterfield. High school students were going to Lyons High School while plans for the new Evergreen building were being made. With a change in the number and age range of students, so did the activities change. There were no more Varsity, Reserve, and Freshman ballgames. Dan- ces were very few and Junior and Senior Plays were eliminated, so the school had to find new and different activities. A fine example is the School Fair held in the cafeteria on February 28. All grades participated by sponsoring a booth or game. A choral program was presented by the fifth through eighth grades during the Christmas season. Seventh grade gave the eighth graders a party when the magazine sale was over and eighth grade won by selling the most subscriptions. April 2, seventh and eighth graders were invited to attend the annual Junior High Prom held in the Lyons gym. A close look in the classrooms will reveal that there are studies in school, too. There are two first grades this year, with 25 and 23 members in each. Sub- jects they study include reading, math, printing, science, art; plus how to tie shoes, zip coats, and gain self-confidence. In May, the two classes spent a day at the Toledo Zoo. Kindergartners' and first graders' part in the school fair was to collect pictures for the Pretty Baby Contest. Twenty-two second graders study the same subjects as the first grade, but in more detail. Modern math is also on the agenda. For the school fair, second graders sponsored a turtle race, after which they raffled off the turtles. Reading, math, language, social studies, spelling and music were studied this year by 32 third graders. Their part in the school fair was to sponsor a milk can booth. A field trip to the Wauseon Public Library was during Book Week in Novem- ber. After taking charge of the Washer Toss at the fair, 21 fourth graders returned to the class rooms to study music, health, science, math, and social studies. Twenty-five fifth graders studied spelling, social studies, English, science, and health this year. Besides attending the fair, their responsibility was to make bean bags and then take charge of the bean bag toss. Sixth graders studied the usual subjects, and took up common and declined fractions, weights and measures, and graphs in math class. The responsibility of making advertising posters, menus, and sponsoring the stuffed animal booth for the fair was divided equally among the 26 members of the class. I Other pleasures of school for them were the trips to the Children's Wonderland and Christmas in Many Lands at the Toledo Zoo in December. Twenty-four students in the seventh grade and twenty-four in the eighth grade were entertained at a party February 16 as a reward for their efforts in clean-up, coat-check, and concession stand sales at the eighth grade tournament games. Boys from these grades had industrial arts class. Seventh graders learned j names of tools and their use, and made cutting boards for the kitchen. Eighth graders built gun racks and saw horses. Thus, it is difficult to prepare for concerts or per- formances. However, because of extra work, one performance was made this year on March twenty-first for the P. T. A. Fair. Much credit should be given to the group for their fine performance under the direction of David M. Chonko. They put in time, effort, and work to prepare for the concert. In- cluded in Ag. , as it is called by most of the students, the boys learn about farm management and also some of the essentials necessary to keep the farm going Home Economics is another main subject in our school. Mrs. Sutton has done a fine job in keeping the girls busy on sewing, baking, and other things that will be helpful to them in their years to come. At the right the girls are starting the pattern for a blouse. With the beginning of President Kennedy's Physical Fitness Program Lyons -Chesterfield has emphasized its physical education and made it more interesting to all the students. They take part in games of all sorts and enjoy every minute of it. Socrates was quoted as saying, A body cannot re- main healthy without being exercised . This is exactly what President Kennedy had in mind, strong, healthy bodies for all Americans and our school is trying to fulfill his wishes 88 ENGLISH SOCIAL STUDIES English and Social Studies take up a good part of the courses a person must take while in high school. In these courses he learns about The American Way of life, liter- ature. and our Government. Pictured at the right is a typical American Government class. This is a required course for all seniors. SCIENCE General Science is the introduction to science taken by all freshmen. Biology, physics, and chemistry are taken later which explore tne fields of dissecting, mathematical equations, and observations of ex- periments respectively. MUSIC This is a voluntary field including band and chorus. Both fields com- pete in district competition at Bowling Green each spring If rated superior, they will compete in state competition the following month. Ensembles and solos are also taken to competition. 89 Senior Of The Year Seniors Of The Month CHARLIE HAMILTON September GARY VALENTINE December The Senior Class for each month recognizes the most out- standing Senior for his or her excellence as a good citizen, a good scholar, a good sport, cooperative attitude or that stu- dent's combination of these very fine attributes.
