Wafedcetafzq Th1s 1S the end of twelve years of school for the Class of 1954 They are the shortest twelve years of aperson's l1fe They are happy carefree and gay years We do not have to bear much respons1b1l1ty or worry about sub s1stence We are now at the threshold of a new l1fe We must now learn to bear the burdens of that l1fe Our motto Just One More Step to Success 1S a good one for us to follow We may th1nk that success arr1ves when we get the PICCC of paper that IS called a ' dlploma' Th1s 1S not success but Just one more step Success may come anyt1me 1n l1fe It may come gradually or all at once It w1ll not be g1ven to us we must work for lt Bus1ness today cons1sts ofmany d1fferent branches These are often h1ghly spec1al1zed and take much tra1n1ng and pat1ence The re are many people go1ng 1nto bus1ness today Success 1n bus1ness IS achleved when a person goes as h1gh as he can He may be successful but he should not be contented He should always be look1ng for a h1gher goal It 1S 1mportant to choose work for wh1ch you are su1ted as well as work wh1ch you l1ke We are leav1ng Lyons H1gh School w1th memor1es of many pleasant exper 1ences The halls w1ll always be remembered but no longer w1ll our vo1ces sound 1n them We are go1ng the way those classes before us have gone How well we do how far we go IS now up to us Dan Peebles Commencement t1me1s upon us commencement the real1zat1on of a dream a goal an end1ng of our school days and a beg1nn1ng of a new and unknown l1fe Dur1ng the last twelve years no two of us have been taught al1ke Some have had d1ffe rent teachers and some have had d1fferent schools but even the same teachers d1fferent learn1ng Teach1ng 15 the art of express1ng a thought so lt may be understood by a l1stener learn1ng IS the art of absorb1ng that Wh1Ch IS taught Dur1ng our school l1fe we have had orgamzed teach1ng and learn1ng Step by step each of us has learned accord1ng to our ab1l1ty We have not been 1n a contest w1th our classmates only w1th ourselves If we have successfully ma1nta1ned what has been taught to us we have a sol1d foundat1on on wh1ch to bu1ld our future whether lt be college marr1age or 1ndustry In the past we have had planned learn1ng What next?
