CLASS PUEM We, the Seniors of ’50, For twelve years have been taught By the teachers and experience, The knowledge that can’t be bought. Now our high school days are over, We have come to journey’s end; We will face the future with courage, As a new life is to begin. Sadness will come on commencement day, As we say good-by to all, And start out on our new journey With its troubles, both great and small. Success is our goal for happiness, In which we will all try to win, We’ll fight to the finish, no matter what, With courage we had when we began. We, the Seniors of ’50 say, (Now that we are through) ‘‘Thank-you teachers for what you’ve done, And good luck to the whole school.’’ - Wava Hoops

SALUTATORY As we come to another half-century mark, a change has come over us, a change whi h we feel in our minds and hearts. This change or strange feeling comes to us when we think about all our frieiKis and classmates that we are leaving behind, and when we think about all the good times we have had even though there were a few bad times mixed in between them. While we were working our way up through studies and education in grade school, we often looked ahead to try to see what the future had in store for us. Now that we are finishing our high school career we begin to look back and wonder why we were in such a hurry to get where we are now. For the majority of this class a future of working in factories, on farms, or being housewives has already been mapped out, while others are planning to keep right on going to school for further education. In either case the members of this class will always remember our Alma Mater. The feeling that we owe our education and the success received from an education will always linger inside our hearts. Looking ahead from our graduation we hope that life will present itself to us in the same fashion as our previous years have. We hope that we may all reach the goals we are striving for and make our lives worth while. As we start this new phase of life we are all setting our aims high and will do our best to reach them. As we bid farewell to Lyons High School we wish sincerely to thank the faculty, school board, and all others who have helped us get the most good out of our school days. --Maurice Damman

CLASS HISTDHY Ugh ! That is what we said as we met upstairs on our first day of high school. Before we elected our Big Chief and his followers for the year we had a big battle, and lost four of our warriors. The heroes of the battlp were: the biggest hero, or the one with the most feathers, Ralph Cleghorn, Warrior first class; warrior second class, Jeannine Gunn, and last, but not least, was our signal-maker or messenger girl, Anne Hathaway. Our Big Chief was Mr. Rath bun. In this our first year, we gained some scouts who were James Lawrence, Charles Crowell, Elden Hough, and Herschel Engebretson. We parted, and three moons (months) later our tribe met again and Mr. (Big Chief) Rathbun failed to make it and we assumed he must have left us to lead some other tribe for more wampum. Upon checking our bear traps we found we had caught another one, Big Chief Sieren. On this, our second year of fighting for our grades we decided our followers of last year should hand their feathers on to someone new. We had an- other big battle and lost five more of our warriors. The heroes of the battle this year were Bill Burroughs, warrior first class, Nancy Drewyor, warrior second class, and our third class or position this year was to be taken by Phyllis Markley. This year to make up for some of our losses some good scouts wandered into our tribal grounds. They were Maurice Damman, Alice Wool, Virginia Griffin, and Glenna Stout (Stephenson). Again we parted to have another three moons of rest and relaxation be- fore we would have to go back to our old stamping grounds again. Our three moons passed very quickly and we were back for our annual battle in which new warriors would lead us all. When we all met we found Mr. Sieren had been trapped by some other tribe: Miss Whitney was its leader. We had our annual battle and Big Chief Johnston was our new leader. His closest followers were Jeannine Gunn, warrior first class, Herschel Engebretson, warrior second class, Virginia Griffin, warrior third class, and Beverly Hall, our wampum keeper. We had a very un- fortunate year, this year, because we lost six of our best warriors: now we had dwindled down to eighteen in our tribe. We decided to take a leave of absence from the daily grind, and rest again for another three moons. When we again met we found we still had our same hero of the battle, Big Chief Johnston of the year before. We were very happy to find he hadn't strayed from our tribe. Also, we still had some of our same brave warriors of the year before: Jeannine Gunn, warrior first class, Frank Vanderkonck, warrior second class, and Beverly Hall, warrior third class In this, our last year of staying together before we went out into the world for ourselves, we lost another of our good scouts, Ralph Cleghorn. We want to thank all the teachers, friends, and parents who have made our stay in our Happy Hunting, Grounds a very pleasant one. Virginia Griffin Robert Burroughs Wava Hoops Charles Potes
