In our freshman year, we elected Joe Arnitz as president and Mr. Kolat was our advisor. We had a bake sale and a fair, neither of which added very much to our treasury. As Sophomores we chose Don Oakleaf as president and Mr. Rees as our advisor. Our one and only activity was a bake sale. In our junior year, Don Oakleaf was again our president and Mr. Gould and Mr. DePorter were our advisors. The year started off with much excitement over the selection and arrival of our junior rings. We decided that this year we really had to make some money. Our acti- vities included a bake sale and the sale of stationery, ribbon candy, gladiolus bulbs, Lyons pins and megaphones. We also had charge of a pencil machine, sponsored the refreshment stand at the football games, and in May assumed responsibility for the milk bar and milk break Misty , our Junior Prom, after much work and preparation, climaxed our junior year and proved to be a great success. As Seniors we selected the president and class advisors we had had as Juniors. The tra- ditional senior magazine sale started off this year, our last at LCS. We also were in charge of the milk break and milk bar and the sale of refreshments at basketball games. With the arri- val of our senior pictures, there was much excitement. , The selection of our graduation invi- tations and caps and gowns, however, made us fully realize that we would soon be leaving our high school years behind us. Our Senior Ball, Wonderland by Night, on December 22 was a tremendous success, as was our Senior Play on April 12. During our Easter vacation, we took our long-awaited senior trip to New York and Washington. This we'll never forget. Although our thoughts have reflected the past, we are, nevertheless, excitedly awaiting our Graduation Day on June 22, 1962, and the new phase of our lives which will then begin. WE PAU E TO REFLECT We, the class of 1962, stood on the hill watching the setting sun over Lyons. The sparkling rays reminded us of the similarity between the sun and our senior year, for just as the sun symbolized the end of a day, our senior year meant the end of a special part of our lives. Our thoughts turned to the elementary school and its playground, our exciting first day at the new school , the proud day of our first honor assembly in the new auditorium, and the many championship teams we have seen in our four years of high school. From the summit of Cipriano Hill, we could see the towering elms and buildings of Lyons reflected in shimmering shadows in the waters of Ganargua Creek and the Barge Canal. We realized how close our school is to the community which has supported us and our activities and helped us to maintain and build the high standards and traditions of L. C. S. We realized the great obligations which we tried to fulfill in high school, and we began to see how much greater our future obligations would be, for our new obligations would be not only to our school and community, whose early training our future actions would reflect, but also to our nation and to the world. Somehow though, perhaps because of our youth, this thought did not frighten us, for just as the sun would rise on a new day, we would begin to look ahead toward a new gateway which graduation would open. To the underclassmen of L, C, S. --- we, the seniors of 1962, would like to leave our high goals of citizenship and sportsmanship. We have tried our best to maintain these ideals and we hope that you, the future graduates of L, C, S, , will strive to raise them still higher. After having a record of 11 wins and 3 losses in league play, the Lyons Champs lost to Brockport by a score of 1 to 0 in the quarter-finals of sectional competition. Six of the starting nine players are returning next year to see if they can match or exceed this ex- cellent record. 57 VARSITY FOOTBALL Highlighted by a thrilling 6 to 0 victory over Clyde, Coach Burroughs' boys won the Wayne Finger Lakes and Wayne County championships with their first undefeated season since 1936. Their cunning defense allowed the opposition only 27 points, while they collected 144 in the eight games. It has been 'said that this is the best team ever to come out of Lyons!
