During your span of time, change and new- ness have brought great material progress, com- fort and satisfaction, We have learned to travel farther and faster, communicate more quickly, in- vent greater destructive power and amass more knowledge regarding strange phenomena than any generation. Yet our progress has resulted in a world confounded with fear and frustration. The education you have received has been more comprehensive than even the preceding gen- eration would have thought possible. With this accumulation of knowledge which should help you meet the challenge of the future, we hope you have developed a quality of understanding and found guiding principles for your life. We hope you have learned the indispensability of love to every human being, of relatedness to someone and of being of value to others. Our interdependence with others is the most encom- passing fact of human realityg our personalities are made by our contacts with others. It is simple kindness for which all mortals hunger, The pivot on which our lives must revolve is the realization that everyone is a dignified, essential human soul, Your emerging challenge is to utilize the comprehensive knowledge you have acquired and the simple truths of human relations to find a solution to the world's fears. WORDS F WISDOM ELBERT S, ATWOOD Vice-Principal Judge Yourself Most Seniors approach graduation with mixed feelings, Through the years many have taken for granted the opportunities offered by the school and the guidance of their parents. They now begin to realize that they are about to close one era and approach a more mature challenge in life. The time to summarize and utilize that which has passed in these formative years now becomes imperative. Some things seem to have immediate importance, while other things may appear as non-essential for the future. As you assume the role of a young adult citizen, it might be well to ask yourself: Has accepting become a habit? What have I given in return? Are material things paramount in my future planning? If you can answer these honestly, you will realize that much of your future happiness will de- pend upon your capacity to be of service to others, The happiness you help create for others will de- termine the degree of your own happiness and self esteem.
