OGOICAUOH The Class of 1960 proudly dedicates this edition of the Lyons Tale to you, our parents, We honor you with this small token of our great appreciation for your love and understanding, which have been of utmost benefit to us in the past and will continue to be in the future. Although we may have seemed impossible to you at times, we may have tried your patience, and perhaps we may have overwhelmed you, you faithfully continued to guide us on the road to maturity. Sympathizing with our sorrows, rejoicing in our happiness-- these are the symbols of your undying devotion, Moms and Dads, we thank you. IH m6mOI2lAm W 5 MICHAEL BASTIAN HOLLY l942-1953 Although the swimming accident which took Mike's life oc curred several years ago when we were in the fifth grade, we still re member him as our good friend and companion. He loved all sports. . . . . . .even the sport that took his life. Because Mike would have been a member of our Senior Class we dedicate this page in our yearbook to him. In IUGIUORIAITT PAUL WILLIAM LEN TS 1942-1958 We remember Paul for his keen sense of humor and his witty ways. Everyone enjoyed his splendid solo performances in various choral productions. His untimely death came as a great shock to all of us, especially since he was our good friend and classmate. Because Paul would have been a member of our Senior Class, we dedicate this page of our yearbook to him. You are living in a country where all the ed- ucation you desire and can master is yours for the asking, where you can worship in the Church of your choice without prejudice or persecution, where you can state your opinions freely without fear and where the opportunities for acquiring material things areal- most unlimited. You are living in a country of great cities and extensive farmlands, of pleasant villages and neigh- borly hamlets, of mountains and plains. Your home is truly your castle and you may build it where you will. You are living in a country where the possibilities of being of service to others are limited only by the size of your heart. You are living in a great nation surrounded by friendly borders, wide oceans and beckoning planets. You are living in a nation, blessed beyond all others, in a period in time when man is knocking at the door that may open up to him the far hidden secrets of life itself. Go out then, without fear, with pride in your heritage and with faith in God, to make the most of what life offers. 8 THEY SAY - ELBERT S. Their reactions will influence your evaluation of success and be a de- termining factor in your happiness. We were off to a rolling start in our freshman year with Louise Renzi as class president and Mr. Rees as our adviser, Some profitable bake sales were sponsored by the class. We also launched a successful pencil sale. J oe Fowler headed our class in our sophomore year under the guidance of Mr. Buell, The 'Soph Hop' proved to be fun--but not too profitable! During our junior year, with Jim Arseneau as president and Mr. Rees again as our adviser, we began to realize how important the time element was in our money-making projects. We suc- ceeded in selling S1600 worth of stationery. This sale gave quite a boost to our budget. We had charge of a pencil machine, operated a hot dog stand at football games, and assumed responsibility for the milk break and the milk bar in May. As Juniors we anxiously awaited that day when we would receive our class rings and really feel like upper classmen. What excitement when it arrived! We loved them so much that we used the crest on this, our yearbook. The highlight of our junior year was our Junior Prom, Hawaiian Holiday. We were said to have had the most original and most attractive decorations in years. Of this, we were very proud! As our all too final senior year whizzed by with Louise Renzi as president and Miss Tierney and Mr. Marshall as our advisers, we could hardly believe that the time would soon be drawing near for yearbook deadlines, the last day of milk bar, the senior trip, and that day of good-byes--com- mencement, Our activities included a magazine drive, the class just missing its goal of S6000 by a narrow margin. We also sponsored bake sales and had charge of the 10:10 milk break, the milk bar, and the sale of candy and pop at basketball games, Our December senior ball, Frosty Glo , was a tremendous success. Looking at our high school years in retrospect, we are saddened to think that they will soon end, but we are inspired with the great opportunities that lie ahead, LOUISE RENZI A real keen gal who's on the bal1gLouise, our pal, is liked by all. Tl Y TALKS The idea of being Lyons' first exchange student naturally scared me a little at the beginning, and with shaking knees and a wild-beating heart, I made my way to school. But I soon found out thatlhad no reason to be nervous because from the first moment on everybody in the whole community as well as at school, with his wonderful hospitality and openhearted friendliness, made me feel at home and included me in many activities. Arriving without knowing a single person and leaving with a lot of dear and good friends, going to an entirely new school and parting from the nearest and friendliest one I have ever known, getting a new family and going away with the pain of leaving one's home--those were the marvelous experiences I was able to have during my year in this wonderful and friendly Lyons community. I really do hope that one of our six Lyons candidates will meet a similar community spirit and the same desire for understanding and becom- ing acquainted with others when he or she goes abroad next summer as the first exchange student from Lyons. HELEN ENNIS VIOLA GROSS ER Lyons Hostess from Hamburg, Germany FOREIGN EXCHANGE CANDIDATES CIJOCKWISE: Rita Studer, seated, Helen Ennis, Theodore Hill, Marie Sculli, John Beal, Bonnie Barnmaker. 39 STANDARD BEARERS Each year one boy and one girl from the Senior Class are chosen to fulfill one of the most honored duties at Lyons High--that of standard bearer. Selected on the basis of leadership were Cecelia Santelli and Joseph Fowler. As standard bearers, we feel that Cecelia and Joe have diligently upheld these qualities of leadership and citizenship in our school and in our community. NDERCLASSMEN mmf 00060 CXASSYO , . . By defeating Newark twice, we won top honors in Wayne County and were eligible for the sectionals. In the sectionals, however, we were defeated at Batavia by a score of 6 to 10. With more experienced pitching, we should have an ever better season next year. 59 LEFT TO RIGHT: Merrill Schlee, Bob Hurtt, Jim Williamson, Tom Bradley, Henry Williams, Don Fletcher, Dean Swift, Jim Arseneau, Lyle Crofoot. After many years of being the doormat, Lyons came within one game of winning the league championship. At the beginning of the season this looked likea rebuilding year. However, this group developed quickly into a strong, aggressive club. The team won five straight games before being tied by last year's champs, Seneca Falls. After winning the next game, Lyons lost the championship to neighboring Clyde. We are losing several outstanding seniors, including all-conference tackle Jim Trombino, but eight of our starting eleven will return, and the prospects for next season look good. --Jack Burroughs BASKETBALL xj!!
