She is the State Cherry Pie Baking Champion. Lila Cook, Lyons High School senior and member of the Lyons Conquerors 4-H club, was chosen Kansas State Cherry Pie Baking Champion from 54 contestants. When Lila was asked how shi ielt about being State Champion, she answered, Thrilled. The contest was held in the new General Electric Building in Wichita, January 7 . Lila baked her pie at 8:00 A. M, and she spent the rest of the day Sill 'mping for angora ear inulls and riding on the escalator lu release the tension of waiting. At four o'c1ock the contestants. their mothers, and their friends were entertained at a tea. Cherry pie was served to them, although most of the girls were getting rather tired of it. When Lila was asked if she still i liked cherry pie, she said, lt ' is okay but I am a little tired ol: lt. . Being state champion entitles? Lila to a trip to Chicago where she will enter the National Cherry Pie Baking Contest. She is to leave Lyons February 21. As yet she doesn't know how she is go- ing. The national winner will win a trip to Washington, D.
