gg Jafar Baccalaureate services were held ln the fxrst Methodlst Church ln Lyons Sunday evening May 14th Rev Don Evans of the Presbvterlan Church delivered the sermon I-I1s subject was Adventurous Falth based on the text Hebrews 11 8 and he went out not knowlng whlther he went Mrs Clyde Ernst played the War March of the Prlests by Mendelssohn as the processlonal Rev Garvln of the Church of the Nazarene gave the mvocatlon The Mxxed Chorus sang two numbers- Forest Hvmn by Moore-Klemn and And the Glory of the Lord from the Messlah Dwlght Small accompamed by E M Turrentme played a cornet solo Andante et Allegro by Ropartz Rev Robertson of the Church of God read the scripture lesson and thls was followed by a number Let There Be Song by the Hxgh School Gu'ls Ensemble Rev L O Smlth of the Methodlst Church pronounced the benedxctlon and as Mrs Ernst played the Poetic March by Alford as a recesslonal the graduatmg class of 1950 of Lyons High School marched out of the sanctuary Memory 1S a crystal vase Into which we drop Beautxful thoughts Llke petals from a fragrant flower X Page 64 Commencement exercxses for the Class of 1950 were held at the Lvons Clty Hall May 18th As the Hlgh School Band plaved the processxonal flfty elght blue and whxte gowned semors marched down the a1sle to seats reserved for them The lnvocatlon was glven bv Rev Hobart of the Chrlstlan Church Duane Small accompamed by Mr E M Turrentme plaved a saxophone solo The speaker for the evemng was Mllton S Elsenhower president of Kansas State College He brought a forceful message to the graduatlon class and their assembled frlends Prm John Buller presented the Class of 1950 to Mr W W Chandler presldent of the Board of Education The blg moment had arrlved the one toward which the class had looked wxth longing eyes when they would walk wlth fhemfied step across the commencement platform to receive the coveted dlploma After the benedlctlon and as the band plaved the recesslonal the class marced out of the audltorlum graduates of L H S Good bye may God take care of you Where ever you go what ever you do May Heaven bestow lts blesslng on you Everyone everywhere 1 , . . . . .
