Page 60 Ez Of KaC4gl'0llJ'l As we arr1ve at our graduatlon from L H S lt IS natural for us to pause for a backward look and revlew some of the hlghllghts of our school days Four years ago our class Jomed the ranks OI high school students as freshmen This year wa a glorlous one because It marked a great change from grade school We had an enrollment of elghtv four members comlng from Lyons grade schools as well as others from over the county That made lt mterestlng as lt gave us a chance to get acquamted and make new frlends Jack Scott was our pres1dent whlle Charles Sledd was V109 president and Pat Laney was secretary treasurer We Jomed the dlfferent organxzatxons and dld our best to make ourselx es useful as well as orna mental and consp1c1ous ln all aCtlVltleS We d1dn t make too much hlstory but we had the tlme of our 11ves Just bemg green and newlsh Altho we were the youngest group of the student body our candldate Mlldred LaMay was chosen football queen over her upper classman rlvals We numbered seventy four durmg our sophomore year Dean Evans was our pres1dent and Phyllxs Enders and La Moyne Sharpe were h1s assxstants School work athletxcs and socxal 8Ct1Vlt1eS fxlled our year Norma Jean Coonfer was chosen football queen wh1le Beth Connery was basketball queen much to the envy of the other classes The followmg year was a busy one for the seventy two Jumors Under the leadershlp of Dean Evans, Art Chandler Norma Jean Coonfer and Pat Laney the class assumed the1r respons1b1l1tv asupperclassmen 1n L H S Marlan Boroughs won the football crown for the 1948 season We chose as our play Seventeen IS Terrlflc The cast proved themselves to be capable thesplans and the audlence agreed that seventeen was a terr1f1c age Our carmval furnlshed fun for both old and young we had a huge crowd a wonderful time and cleared lots of money The banquet was a hlgh hght this year The theme was the 49ers and the gym was transformed mto a typxcal mmmg town of the gold rush of long ago Our farewell to the senlors of 49 was thoroughly enjoyed by all Dunng tlns year we were all made to reallze that tragedy can fall when least expected We were all made sad by the sudden and untlmely death of our class mate and frlend-Jlm Schultz But we w11l remember hun as the lad who kept hxs tears to hlmself and shared h1s laughter with others In September 1949 the doors of L H S opened for us to enter our semor vear Cood tlmes were had by all studymg taklng part m sports and carrymg on lots of other 3Ct1V1flBS We elected the followmg class offlcers Dean Evans pres1dent Charles Sledd vice president Terry Vlramontez secretary Roberta Underwood treasurer We chose yellow and whlte mums as our class flower blue and gold as our colors and for our motto Character IS the corner stone of success Two of our gxrls were elected queens Annette was football queen wh1le Renae rexgned over our basketball homecoming We were busy all year sellmg subscrlptlons ralslng money preparlng copy a.nd taklng plctures for the 1950 ed1t1on of The Llons Roar Our class play A Case of Sprmgtune glven May 9th was the formal opemng of our commencement act1v1t1es Th1s was followed by farewell partxes p1cn1cs baccalaureate and then the commencement exerclses--the crowmng event of our semor year As we come to the close of our high school career we are hesltant to say farewell to the thlngs that have been But txme takes xts flxght and leaves us memones of four years spent m L H S x J o . . ., .
