Page Fifty-four O Ania A ikeyear SEPTEMBER School opens-270 strong for readin', writin', an 'rithmetic. Seniors are happy, class rings arrive. Board of Education entertains faculty of the city schools at a water- melon feed. P. T. A. entertains city teachers. ' H. S. class elections. Graydon, Joe, Dean, and Jack chosen president of their respective classes. The Lions Roar staff announced by Miss Stahl. The L.H.S. band initiate their nifty blue and white uniforms at the fall opening. Dale Evans really walked down the hall. OCTOBER L.S.H. students get the news and gossip in the first edition of 'l'he Spotlight. World Series bring radios to school. Mr. Samuel Brick, band director, and Miss Marilyn MacFerran are married in Topeka. Y-Teen Conference at Nickerson. Seniors take aptitude tests. Some are not so apt. Report cards! Did you make the honor roll? V Norma Jean Coonfer crowned F. B. queen at the Hoisington game. Did the goblins get 'cha? NOVEMBER State teachers meeting-No school! Teachers still at Convention. No school!! Blue Dozen from Lindsborg entertain L.H.S. students at assembly. New velours curtains for auditorium Windows presented by repre- sentatives of the classes of 1946 and 1947. Vocal music department goes to Lindsborg. Seniors are guests of Sterling College for the day. Juniors present their play, Slightly Delirious -Very good, too. Wayne Sangster, Marilyn Patton, and Lois Colberg take the Pepsi Cola scholarship exams. Thanksgiving. Vacation! T1u'key! Slept late! DECEMBER Ice storm changes Lyons into a winter fairyland, even tho' trees are broken. Kodak fans are busy. Dance in the gym after the Larned game. We won 46-24. Lvons defeats Stafford 39-29. Better not cry, better not pout, 4 Santa Claus is coming to town. Merry Christmas to all.

JANUARY Hello, Happy New Year! Back to classes. Record crowd in gym at Lyons-Sterling game. Beat Sterling! And we did! F. B. letters presented in assembly by Coach Al Steele. King Karol and Queen Beverley reign over the Junior Carnival. More exams! How much didn't you know? Roberta Underwood takes advantage of leap year. Grade cards - Juniors lead the honor roll. Lyons B.B. team goes to Hoisington tournament. Dale Evans has hard luck with his car. It's fun to walk tho' Dale. FEBRUARY Lyons defeated Sterling in March of Dimes contest. Jerry Hannah arrives at school 20 minutes early. Snow. More snow. Yearbook staff has the concession at the Quivira League tournament. Roses are red, violets are blue, Sugar is sweet and so are you. Lyons wins from Lindsborg, cinching the C.P.L. title for L.H.S. MARCH Snow storm. dismisses school in P. M. Operetta The Gypsy Troubador, directed by Miss Hall. Florene and Donald are well supported by the cast and chorus. More snow-Roads blocked out of Lyons-Regionals postponed. Huge crowd at B. B. regionals. Wayne Sangster takes Summerfield exam. State B. B. tournament at Salina-No school in P. M. Lyons defeated Iola 47-39. More B. B. tournament but Abilene defeats us by 5 points. Easter assembly sponsored by Hi-Y, assisted by Mixed Chorus. Good Friday, Easter vacation. APRIL School dismissed forthe day. April fool! Music festival at Lindsborg. We're proud of all Lyons entrants. L.H.S. students present assembly at Sterling High school. B.B. letters awarded by Coach H. K. Stevens. Relays at Hutchinson. Junior - Senior banquet and prom. Did you stay for the prom? MAY Tennis tournament. Y-Teen farewell for the senior girls. - Senior play, Foot-Loose in H. S. auditorium. Farewell Chapel and good-bye to L.H.S. for the seniors. Rev.
