The Girls' Freshman Picnic -O- Glce Club of the high school gave two numbers and Miss Rae Mills played a piano solo. Following a vocal solo by Miss Ruth Martin came the main fea- ture of the program, Hicks at Coll- ege, a lively three-act college play, presented by the Senior class, assist- ed by Panl Ellison, John Lantow and Otto Adams. Jesse Markle and Ruth Cassingham played the leading parts exceptionally well. Paul Ellison, Lo- well Wharton and Ruth Martin had heavy parts and kept the audience en- thusiastic by getting the real spirit of the play in their work. The play was a big success and a frequent com- ment during and after the program was, That beats any regular play we've had in Lyons for a long while. Miss Lucile DeTar,'under whose direction the play was given, deserves a great deal of praise for the suc- cess of the work. The Senior class considers itself fortunate in having secured her services. H. S. students were very glad to hear the announcement that the Freshmen would entertain all the stu- dents and faculty at a picnic in honor of the Seniors on Friday, May 14. This is an old and time-honored custom and is always hailed withdelight. , At noon, or thereabouts of the ape pointed day, most of the students gathered at the school building and climbed into the wagons and automo- biles waiting to take them to the Tay- lor Grove south of town. Of course some chose to walk and others had their own conveyances. No one minded if the roads were dusty and the sun was hot, for the ride was a short one. After arriving at the grove the coni- pany broke up intogroups andarnus- ed themselves by playing ball, wading and resting on the grass. About-,five o'clock everyone eagerly responded to the supper-call 'and ate their' fill of, the delicious sandwiches, pickles,salad- and ice ,cream that had beenprepared, A little. morefun and then everyone climbed back into the' wagons and went home, giving three cheers for the Jolly Freshman class We, the undersigned ,vvouldi like ' to. have Arthur Quinlan provide 'uislvvitlii A good tenor voice--Foster Baker.
