4 V' Loot-riolfiimo' Rall ,Lyons Team nom ,Eventuall Tops U .In veitime, 63-5 W Coach Al Gallo's luckless Uni-L iversity High basketball team saw a 14-point second-quarter lead slowly melt away last night, as ithe Univees dropped their ninth in twelve starts in a thrill- ing overtime contest. Lyons'put on a determined drive in the finalr half to gain a 63-57 decision in 'the Ul-lS Gym. 1 Larry Waggoner was the star for the Lyons quintet as he scor-I ed eight of the last 10 points in, regulation play, and then came ' back with five of the eight points' 'last-ditch' Foul .Defeals Lions Five in the overtime period. . When Lyons missed its first ieight shots, the Univees surged into a quick 6-0 lead after only three minutes. But then the Uni- ' vees had difficulty in finding ,the r range, as Lyons took up the slack. Bill Powers scored all of the Ly-I ons points as the Univees held an' 1 11-7 lead at the first stop. Bob Lace came into action and hit three straight 25-footers and Gene Hasler accounted for seven points during the period. Lyons outscored the Univees 22-12 in the period and the score was tied 40-40 with only eight minutes to go. I Dave Rich and Miio Sampson! hit baskets in the final 90 sec- onds, only to have Waggoner come back with two quick ones 1 to knot the score at 54-all at the end of regulation time. Lyons had a golden opportunity to win as, with only one second showingl on the clock, Roy Riggles. a sub- , stitute forward, was fouled by, U1-IS center-forward Bill Brtun-1 mett. But he missed the ifree: chance and sent the game into overtime. 1 Sampson was fouled in the -opening seconds of the overtime and cashed both shots. But tl1e hot-shooting of Waggener spoiled the Univee plans once more, as, he canned two field goals and a 'free throw to push the winners out in front by three big points. Gary Hunter added the final 'points on a field goal and a free throw. V Bill Barnes was a one-day hero at the Stinesviile High school to- day after he caged two pressure- piqcked ifsul baskets Tuesday' -night to give his schools team a 53-52 victory over the Lyon? quintet, at the Stinesville gym The Lyons team was leading the Stinesville lads 52-51, with only two seconds left on the clock. A Lyons player was charged with a blocking foul and Barnes non- chalantly stepped to the foul line and dropped both shows through the basket. He previously had failed to connect on four shots. The Lions were anead 15-9 and 28-27 at the end of the first and second quarters. respectively, but trailed 43-119 at the conclusion of Q the third. The Stinesville center, Summitt, gd his team in scoring with 18 ipoints, and'Barnes contributed 15. Larry Waggoner and Larry Hasler paoed the Lions with 13 apiece. The victory was the second for thc Lions over the Hornets this season. In accounting for the triumph, the Lions were ahead 13-10, 28- 22 and 39-33 at the quarterly rests. Lary Hasler led the Lions in scoring with 16 points and Larry Waggoner, with 15, took second honors for his team. For Sols- berry Watkins and Stewart, with 14 and 11 points, respectively, were the scoring standouts.
