54416416411 -ffiitoty The Lyons Lions haven't had a too successful basketball season this year as far as the won and lost column is concerned. Coach Aydelotte started the season with only four letterrnen returning to action. Because of inexperience and lack of height, the boys have had a very rugged time of it. The season is not yet completed, so we cannot be definite about the number of games won and lost. Ed Wright, a junior, and Larry Hasler, a freshman, are leading the team in scoring thus far. Frank Fox, Sherry Leavitt, Delmar O'Neall , Bob Patterson, and Carl Strosnider are the seniors on this year's team and will be missed by next year's ball team. The returning lettermen will be Ed Wright, a iunior, John Nlercer and Tommy Bedwell, sophomores, and Larry Waggoner and Larry Hasler, freshmen. The second team this year has sideplayed some good basketball. The boys, although small, have speed and are willing players. They show a lot of promise for a future brnketball team. Lou Ulrich is leading the team at scoring, and the scrappy little guard should move up to the first team next year along with some of the other promising second team members. The boys have shown a lot of determination, and at times played some very good basketball. They are now looking ahead to the remaining games and the sectional tourney with will to win and a hope for success. The Lyons Junior High Team had an unsuccessful season for i954-55, losing the first six games. At the time of this writing the team still has four games to play, and could possibly win at least five for the season. This team should make a good freshman and B team for Coach Aydelotte next year. They should grow and improve over the summer months in their basketball ability. The Lyons Junior High B team should close the season with eight wins and five losses. All of these boys will make up the eighth-grade team next year, and will give strong competition in the county next year. The Lyons Junior High will play in the Greene County Grade Tourney, which will be held in Bloomfield this year. The boys should make a good showing in this tourney. The iunior high yell leaders were chosen the same day as the high school yell leaders. The only group to try out, Marietta Floyd, Kay Nichols, and Karen Hollars, were chosen as yell leaders. sw X K S viiiisii ax ix ' X X xx' ' Y . ,L XJ ,
The Lyons track team had a very successful season last year for their third year of participation in track. They placed third in the Greene County Track Meet being beat by Linton and Bloomfield. They won triangular meets between Worthington, Solsberry, Lyons, Sandborn, Freelandville, Lyons. They won a dual meet with Gill Township. Phil Mercer and Hugh Enicks hold records in the county meet. We lost Phil Nbrcer, Jim Duffey, and Hugh Enicks from last year's team, but we have some very good prospects to take their place. Probable Schedule For l955-l956 Nov.
