Delmar O'Neall, Prop. .-C:-, FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN A farewell party was given for Miss Nina Ray, who is taking a teaching position in Hawaii, after she makes an educational tour in Europe. Miss Ray is very well known for her teaching ability at Lyons High School. GRAND OPENING Mr. and Mrs. Delmar O'Neall are announcing the grand opening of their new Philco Television Shop in Lyons. To the first twenty-five custom- ers who buy television sets, Mr. O'Neall promises to install the sets free. Free roses will be given to the ladies and balloons will be given to the kiddies. LYONS WIN FINALS Coach Sherry Leavitt's Roaring Lions came from behind the Gerstmeyer Black Cats to win the basketball finals 71-60 at the Bloomington gymnasium Saturday night. We are very sorry to hear that Coach Leavitt is planning to move to Bloomington, where he is to take the position of head coach at Indiana University. HOLDING DEBUT Opera singer, Dorothy Puckett, is making her debut at the Lyons Opera House on Tues - day at two o'clock. Come and see this great performance. Miss Puckett is M's. They were awarded a trip to Alaska. WELCOME General Charles Thompson and wife, the former Carolyn Goad, and twin girls were welcomed into our town yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have their permanent residence in New York, and are here for only a few days. They are visiting Mrs. Thompson 's parents. ln her spare time, Mrs. Thomp- son is a dress model for the Murphy Clothing Store. BOO K PUBLISHED Richard Hasler, the man of great strength, published his new book, The Power of Atlas . M'. Hasler hopes to encourage many more to become as great as he. SPEEDI Mr. Carl Strosnider has iust re- turned from his trip across the United States. Mr. Strosnicbr is the first man to travel across the country in sixty hours. He drove a 1921 Ford, to which he attri- butes his miraculous speed. HONOR ED AT LUNCHEON At a luncheon last nidtt, Mr. Clyde Tibbett was awarded a gold medal for being chosen the Finest Garden Grower in the Nation . Mr. Tibbett is very well known for his discovery of the tomato without seeds . GREAT MUSICIAN Miss Jo Nichols, the great baritone and trombone player in the Lyons High School Band, will appear on the Toast of the Town Sunday night. Miss Nichols has won many honors throughout the country playing her famous piece May Moon , which she first played at the Band Festival at Lyons in 1955. FILLING STATION ROBBED Junior Allen, owner of the only filling station in Switz City, re- ported a robbery sometime between midnight and one o'clock fthe only hour of the day that he isn't open for businessl this morning. Reported missing were two grease M-. ...A CIMA... mv.,-tl. VISITING Bob Patterson is visiting friends and relatives in Lyons. eniot 6515.4 lfiftoty The freshman class started the year of 1951-52 with an enrollment of twenty-one, seven girls and fourteen boys. There were two new members in the group, Dorothy Puckett from Newberry and Richard Carpenter from Switz City Central. Curtis Howell withdrew in November and entered school at Worthington. Officers selected for the year were: Nina Ray, president, Karlene Cornelius, vice -president, and Ocelia Earlywine, secretary-treasurer. Red and white were chosen as class colors and Mr. Briscoe served as class sponsor. The class enioyed twolparties the first semester, the first, a skating party at the Bicknell Skating Rink on November 7, with Miss Hickey as sponsor, and the second, a Christmas party and gift exchange on December 21. The class enioyed a trip to Spring Mill State Park the second semester. The sophomore year, 1952-53, only seventeen students enrolled in the class. There was one new member, Don Dayhoff from Switz City Central. later Imogene Crane withdrew from school. At the be- ginning ofthe second semester, Joe Ulrich entered the class from Washington, Indiana. The class officers selected bythe group were: Don Dayhoff, president, Sherry Leavitt, vice- president, Karlene Cornelius, secretary, Clyde Tibbett, treasurer, and Nina Ray, news reporter. The class sponsor was Mr. Michael. A skating party was held at Bicknell by the freshman -sophomore classes on October 29. The class enioyed a Christmas party on December 24. A trip to Spring Mill State Park was enioyed by the class the second semester. I The iunior class started the year of 1953-54 with an enrollment of seventeen. We had one new stu- dent, Carolyn Good, from Switz City. Delmar O' Neall entered the class from Decker High School during the first semester. 'Leota Johnson withdrew in the second semester, and entered school at Sandborn. The class selected the following officers for the year: Sherry Leavitt, president, Nina Ray, vice- president, Don Dayhoff, secretary, and Joe Ulrich, treasurer. The class sponsor was Mr. Street. At the beginning of the year the juniors sponsored the annual magazine drive. The class was divided into two teams, the Reds and the Blues. Nina Ray was the chairman of the Reds and Sherry Leavitt was the chairman of the Blues. Don Dayhoff was the manager of both teams. Sherry Leavitt received the prize for the highest salesman of the first day, but Nina Ray was the highest salesman of the complete drive. The Red's team won the drive. The class also helped the seniors with the Halloween camival and sold popcorn at the home ball games. lnstead of having a class play, the iuniors sponsored a circus, November 19. The class received class rings in November. The iuniors sponsored the Happy Valley Folks the second semester. At the close of the year the iuniors entertained the seniors with a reception at the Lyons Memorial Hall on May 14. The junior class members were ushers at the Baccalaureate Services on May 16, and the Commencement on May 18. 13
