We were both graduates of Lyons Falls High School, class of 1950 We had not seen each other for twenty years, until last week Shirley and her husband have left their children home with grandma, while they take in a few shows in New York City I am on my vacation As to how we happened to be on board this plane, we met as contestants on a quiz program To make a long story short, we won a trip to Paris Shirley is disappointed because her husband can't come with us So here we are, looking over the passenger list nWa1t a minute, Shirley, doesn't this name look familiar? Yes, but it couldn't b Marian because she was so particular about having her name spelled with an A instead of an O, and this is MARION Cook Why donft we go see9n And, of course, I'm as curious as Shirley is The hostess pages Miss Cook for u Soon a woman in White comes down the aisle We recognize each other immediately We aren't too surprised to learn that she is a successful laboratory technician, with a responsible position awaiting her in London, England Time flies, and before we know it Marian is leaving, with our best wishes ringing in her ears Being interested in planes, we wander about, peeking in all the corners All at once we both fall flat on our faces A tired looking man, whose feet had been stretched across the aisle, trys to help us o our feet, but only makes matters worse We recognize this Specimen of human fleshn as Dick Noftsier Dick has finally learned how to drive his Dad's car and he has gone into the transportation business, nThe Purple and White Cabs,n to be exact Dick leaves us at the Paris airport as he has to return home in two days and he has a full sched ule to meet before leaving One of the first thlngs we do is to go to an outdoor cafe While sitting at one of the little tables we notice an attractively dressed lady sitting across from Shirley knows who she is, but she keeps qulet until the light dawns on me, it is Ruth Hook Ruth is president of an exclusive baby sitting corporation in New York City Her clients reasons for coming over is to sample the drink consisting of lf8 part wine and l 2 part water that we talked about in Earth Science class She said that it is as bad as claimed Ruth doesn't stay with us long as her trip is to be a short one After touring the city we go out in the country to see the exper imental farming projects On the way a man driving a sleek limousine nearly runs into us The driver is apologizing for the near accident, when we recognize him as Bernard Lallier, our apologizing friend from LFHS, class of '50 WPeten has become a successful farmer and launching out into the grape and wine business, and has come to France to observe the growing of grapes and the processing of wine He left his wife home to run the farm As he departs, he promises to send us each a case of his finished product, the very best, of course wg return to our hotel, where we find everything ready for the evenings entertainment, since tonight we are to dine at Antoine's The individual service provided by the chefs is one of its main drawing cards Our chef turns out to be one not able to understand us, and we do not understand French He vets a young boy from the kitchen to take our orders Later, we are surprised to find our meal being set before us by a tall, dark, handsome man, who said he has taken over our table because of the other man's deficiency in speech Vhile he is serving us we discuss our good fortune in meeting some of our old classmates Ye are so engrossed that we don't notice the chef had stopped serving and is tending there looking at us I notice him and ask if anything is wrong He lets out a loud yell, said our names, and then says 'No, it can't be, it isn't U Shirley and I realized with a start that it is none other than Richard Snyder, who has become a famous local chef ' e o S. O t . ll Y , us. are responsible for paying for Ruth's trip. But why Paris? One of her X . ' . ' is 6' AJS Hl6'7'0l?Y It was September of 19 5, when seventeen frightened, green, little Freshmen met with Miss Larmon, their faculty advison in the math room This class had a slight female shortage, as there were twelve husky boys and five innocent, but sweet, girls We had five old hands at the game, Harry Manning, Richard Baxter, Norman Loson, Joan Noftsier, and Edward McDougall, who tried at first to make us feel unhappy in our new atmosphere Harry Manning was class president Letters in sports were won by Harry Manning and Dick Baxter in basketball, Don Adams, Dick Baxter, william Covey and Harry Manning in baseball, Harry Manning and James Butts in football Beverly Van Alstine and Kathryn Krug were varsity cheerleaders We sponsored a popcorn sale We lost Donald Adams and Edward McDougall during the summer months preceding our Sophomore year Charles Davidson and Joanne Rudnick joined us Miss Larmon was our advisor again this year was this year that we voted on our class motto, colors, and flower The same people won letters for sports Walter Wasco was class presi dent for a half a year, James Butts for the rest of the year Our class social life in both our Freshman and Sophomore years was a Christmas party In our Junior year we lost Charles Davidson, Harry Manning, Dick Baxter, Joan Noftsier, and Joanne Rudnick Shirley Weber joined us We ordered our class rings and we were a group of happy boys and girls when they came We sold popcorn and candy, and we held a radio raffle Shirley Weber was class president Mr Sieber was our class advisor James Butts left us in the first half of the year There were only ten seniors at the beginning of the year Una Olm joined our ranks, thus making the girls outnumber the boys, even though Kathryn Krug left us We edited our yearbook and had few candy sales, and a turkey raffle We also sold class pins The same awards were won this year, with a few added ones Pf?0Ph'E6' Y 6 01V 7' IIYUE D Dick finishes his work, then he joins us The past comes alive for us in those minutes before we have to make our departure We have decided to get most of our packing done this night, so we leave rather early It is about 8 in the morning when Dick calls to ask if he might take us to the boat By this time Shirley has Joined me, wide awake his wife, Patty, are waiting for are finally ready by lO we make because the boat is due to sail in The second day out we wander us to pack our things together W the boat at 10 30, and just in time, five more minutes about the ship, without being sea . ' . It . a and listening. Without hesitation we both say Nyesn. At 9:30 Dick and . e sick We had seen a movle the night before, and are now looking for the tennis courts To our amazement, we find very few people amusing themselves 1n the sports section The director gives us some tennis rackets and informs us that most of the things are closed for the greater part of the day We get a schedule, and at the top of the page is the head instructor's name, Beverly Van Alstine, in big black let ters We sign for an early game of tennis the next morning At 6 a m we are awakened by a loud banging on tke door There, standing in the doorway, is a king sized tennis racket, but after another look we see that it is NDudeU standing behind it Bev had noticed us talking to the director, so she though she would surprise us And she did' Not many people can boast of seeing a tennis racket standing ln their doorway early in the morning Ruth is assigned to our tenn1s court, so we play doubles, Ruth and I, Bev and Shirley I leave it to your imagination as to how much the vanquished team is beat by CThe score was reminlscent of the Port Leyden LFHS basketball games J we have a great time roamlng the ship together, after HDude'sU working day is over It is with regrets that we part company at the end of the trip Because Shirley's husband isn't expected until late that day we go to my apartment to await his arrival On the way there we wander through Central Park The appearance of a man with a flock of children hanging on his coattails affords us something to laugh over In fact we laugh so hard that we pay no attention to the space separating us, when the man says HIt's no joke, ladies, I assure You N nwhy, Walter Wasco, are they all yours?H Shirley asks Walter had started at the bottom and is now chief accountant in a large firm We talk for a while and think how strange it is that we have met all of our class mates, after twenty long years, in one short week CM55 WILL In as much as we feel the hand of death approaching, it seems only fitting and proper that we should dispose of the goods we have come t call our own Therefore, revoking all former wills by made, we, the class of 1950, residing in the village of Lyons Falls, County of Lewis, State of New York, being of sound mind and memory, do publish and declare this to be our LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT In the following manner, that is to say To the FACULTY, whose courage and unending patience has brought us through these four years of high school, we leave more classes like ours so that their teaching will not become boring in the future To JOHN TEAL, we leave many interesting quarrels and arguments about ADELINE To FRANK GROSSNIKLAUS, we leave a small cannon This is so he may never miss his target when hunting To JAM S WEST, whose mind is never idle, we leave friends who will cooperate with his great plans that seldom work To MARY LOU WALSH, a year's supply of the equipment necessary for an artist, with our thanks for helping to make our yearbook a success To PAUL ROGERS, a year's supply of vitamin pills so that he will be strong enough to make the grade of graduation in 1951 To JAMES BAXTER, we leave a special bus so that he can arrive home in Turin by 5 30 p To BETTY DEAN, we leave a special book entitled, 'How to Reduce in Ten Easy Lessonsn To BARNEY GAFFNEY, we leave much success and courage in his future school years To LAURINE CLAIRE, we leave many handsome men from which she is to choose her future husband To ROBERT PHILIP HOSKINS, we leave a clock That's the thing use to get to school on time, Bob To EMILY POTTER, we leave past memories of CHARLIE DAVIDSON and future ones of RICHARD NOFTSIER she can can get think of PETE GRACE KOHL, we leave a tube of paste That's the only way she any closer to LENORE LOSON SUE WALSH, we leave tons of determination make up your mind, Sue, it's been Uwill In or Uwon't In all year long To LEO HOFFMAN, we leave a pair of stilts There's always a way to make one's self a bit taller, you know To BOB McDONALD, a bit of something or other to soften your heart You've had poor HELEN in a dither all year wondering whether you cared or not Show some sympathy, BOB To AGNES GAFFNEY, our best personality is the envy of the L To JANET VIENNEAU, we leave pink ribbons How else could wishes for another year of fun Your F H S girls, WPorky0 you a date book all tied with pretty you take care of your many social engagements' T0 BOB TEAL, the admiration of the entire student body What a boy looks, personality, ability everything necessary To TOM LEVESQUE, we leave John Barrymore's place in dramatic art Keep up the good work, TOM To JERRY BOSHART, we leave the realization that he isn't the only pebble on the beach Other people exist, too, JERRY o . us : .m.
