TENTH GRADE ACTIVITIES Eager to organize the tenth grade class sponsored by Mrs. Annabel White, students ol that grade met early in October to nominate officers for the year 1941-42. From the many nominees, students on the following day elected Art Borie as president, Jean Bench as vice-president, Hiroko Asano as secretary, and Calvin Rufener as treasurer. Many have been the activities of the senior class led by these capable officers. During the Hallowe ' en celebration, an amateur show was presented in the auditorium under the direction of the senior committee. The proceeds from this program were con- tributed to the Parent-Teachers ' Association. Later in the year another amateur show was sponsored by the tenth grade for the purpose of adding money to the senior gift fund. On April 2, senior boys, dressed in the new spring models, appeared in a fashion show For comparison, styles of yesteryear were also modeled. Two sports events of outstanding importance were also sponsored by the tenth grade. Suspense and excitement were the keynotes of the thrilling basketball game between senior classmen and the faculty. After four quarters of tense playing, the teachers won a well-earned victory. On April 9 with renewed spirit and vigor, once more the tenth grade met the faculty in another contest — this time in a basketball game. Loud cheers from the student body told all that this time the seniors were victorious. Three parties during the year were voted very successful by the entire class. The Virginia Reel started the Christmas party in a hilarious mood- After the appearance of Santa Claus, modern dancing and games concluded the afternoon ' s fun. In pigtails and rags, tenth grade students turned out en masse for the hard times party. Old fashioned games were played, after which refreshments were served. The June banquet and party, to which every senior at Lynwood looks forward, was a special treat this year, for it was the only festivity held at night. After the banquet with its Hawaiian theme, students danced in the gym to the rhythmic music of a dance orchestra. After the formal banquet, an informal affair in the form of a picnic was held on May 29. Highlights of this day w ere athletic contests, an assembly program and a movie. On June 5, concluding four years of diligent study, members of the senior class of Lynwood High School, received their certificates of promotion at the graduation exercises held at Compton Junior College.
