Oh, no, not more of that bicentennial . . wait! ...pause a moment. . .think ofthe significance of our theme. True, every- where you look, the bicentennial is heralded, hawked, and exploited . Year- books across the country are using the bicentennial as a theme . . .and justly so Stop and reflect upon the fruits of our heritage . It's a part of each of us, a part of the school. lt is because of our heritage that we have schools where students, as well as teachers, can voice their opinions . It is because of our heritage that we can be taught and learn what we choose without fear, and it is because of our heritage that we have democratic leaders, leaders who not only try to mold students into worth- while Americans, but also give them the freedom to grow and develop as their talents and abilities permit.

'As the bicentennial draws closer, the tension, excitement, and expectation mounts. Reflected in the school's activities and sports is the spirit of freedom, fair play, and energy character- istic of Americans. At the very founda- tion of our heritage lay these character- istics, for had not the colonists of 1776 possessed the spirit of freedom and fair play to resist the tyranny of England and had they not possessed the energy to spark the birth of America, and wrest their freedom from the British, Americans would not be the lively, out- going, people they are. Think about your freedom to be active in groups of your choice. Think about America. Think about the bicentennial . Don't be ashamed to say with the rest of America, Happy 200th Birthday, America!
