I, Robert James, will my red hair and freckles to Marilyn Van Zante, and my slow and careful driving to Glenn Van Dyke so he won't have to buy tires all of the time. I, Rex James, will my grandfather's tall tales to Earl James so he can keep up the tradition, and my knowledge of farming to Jerry Sparks. I, Roberta Wagamon, will my tallness to Earl James, my ability to get along with my father to Millie Lewis, and my loyalty to L. H. S. to Joan Van Manen. I. Florence Dunnick, will my shortness to Larry Willemsen so his weight will equal his height, and my habit of talking to Marilyn Van Zante. I, Joyce Meppelink, will my industrious attitude to Larry Willemsen, and my editorship to Pat Verwers and Carolyn Wagamon so we will have a better annual and News Real next year. I, Richard Sparks, will my wise cracks to Richard Terpstra, and my build to Jerry Sparks so he can attract the girls. We, the class of '55, leave our appreciation for helping us to make our high school days happy ones, to the faculty. We, the class of '55, leave the seats next to the door in the assembly to the junior class, and our dignity and our angelic personalities to enable them to command respect from the under classmen. The foregoing document was signed by the said class of '55 in the presence of the faculty. Class of '55 Senior Class History On August 31, 1942, five little tots started the long voyage of school days. Rex James, Gary Roorda, Richard Sparks, John Terpstra and Donald Van Weelden were the pupils. The next year we added Gerdina De Hoedt, but lost her the same year. In the following years we gained Bonnie Perkins, Junior Hudson, Wesley Roorda, Vinis Castor, Marvin Bond, Giles Jay, Leslie Gilpin, Rachel Beason, and Artie Craver. By the time we were green freshmen, we had lost all ofpthese but Artie Craver. In our freshman year we gained from country schools, Joyce Meppeling, Robert James, Florence Dunnick, and Roberta Wagamon, making our total nine. Artie Craver and Donald Van Weelden left us leaving a total of seven. Richard Sparks, John Terpstra, and Rex James have been our only faithful members spending all of their time at Lynnville Independent School. 9 Senior Class Prophecy One day we, the class of 1956, were in our helicopter-taxi hunting for the Lost Seniors of 1955 . Our first stop was in the Navy Shipyards in San Diego, California. We found Admiral Richard P. Sparks giving orders to his shiphands of the U. S.S. Rowboat. We informed Dick of our plans, whereupon he charted us a space map, indicating the where- abouts of the rest of the Lost Seniors . We thanked Dick and jumping into our helicopter-taxi, traveled to China, our first check-point on the map. We landed our taxi just in time to see Boots come out on the stage to entertain the Army troops in her ermine bathing suit. This created quite a sensation. We chatted with Boots for a little while before we continued our journey. Again we all jumped into our taxi. This time our destination was Russsia. Here, Dick told us, we would find John. He had just taken the position as pastor in the Dumkov Haven. We decided to stay and listen to John give his first sermon which was on Dnepropetrovsk . lWhat? ? Q. We wished John the best of luck and continued on our merry way. Our next stop was in the city of love, Vienna. We spied Rex's name in lights above the Viennese Opera House. He starred in the romantic old time hit Romeo and Juliet . His leading lady was Dagmar. He told us about the command performance he had given for the queen. After the last show we boarded our helicopter-taxi and set our sights homeward. Upon arriving in New York, we went directly to the Empire State Building. On the ninetieth floor, we found the office of James, James, and James Sewer Sanitation Department. We came upon Joyce by surprise, and she, blushing deeply, removed herself quite hurriedly from her boss's lap. Joyce said that if we hurried on down to Indianapolis, we would be able to see her brother-in-law, Robert James, preparing for the Memorial Day Races. Not wanting to miss the raCe and a chance to see our old friend, we departed immediate- ly for Indiana. We arrived at the track in our helicopter-taxi just as Robert whizzed by. He came to a screeching halt in his James Special when he discovered who we were. Now we had accounted for six of the lost Seniors, and the last, but not the least, to be found was Florence. There was just one check-point left on the map, located at Miami Beach, Florida. A We arrived quite late so we decided to reserve rooms for the night and continue our Search in the morning. Wanting to splurge on our last night out, we chose the most expensive hotel in the town. While we were registering, the boys' attention was distracted by a very suave blonde. They went over to strike up a conversation, and much to their surprise it was Flo. Flo insisted that we be her guests in the Watson Hotel, which her husband, Richard, had purchased for her for a mere 17 million dollars. We spent the evening informing Flo of the whereabouts of her classmates. Bright and early the next morning we all piled into our Helicopter-taxi and headed for home contented that we knew the whereabouts of the Lost Seniors of 1955 ! 10 1 Y a '., xr ,A 4! sd e -'W far- .r,' . if 5 T. 1.635 df X.. -g y J 3 w 2 ! 4 4 . r lv H f 251 1 .,f'9! --.-nf' -'whifiwh '-'1. .. . The team has gained much experience this year and shows promise of playing better ball next year. 25 Monroe 2.5 County Tourney Lynnx 31 Monroe 74 Colfax 49 Sectional Tourney New Sharon 29 Lynnx 39 Lynnx 40 Sully 28 Kellogg 33 Sully 25 Lynnx 29 Newburg 24 Lynnx Z3 Searsboro 34 Baxter 47 Lynnx 35 Lynnx Z8 Lynnx 19 Kellogg 29 Lynnx 36 Lynnx 26 Lynnx 12 Boys' Basketball t 0099, 'oe' Gauge, 9-0 ee, vafvl :Yes 506' 1?et12' Cha Gauss' gay. en, 305x916 ne, X-este! e ca .,mW ' 6,669 Kaz-:fi tin at Steel-' on aartkxoo 6691 Nlsvatvig 1, Qu: , 'C C 51 BON D 2036535 51? gow-, ofa' 5960140 Searsboro 39 Lynnx 33 The Lynnx team had a good season with a Lynnx 45 Newburg 34 record of 16 wins and 5 losses. SECOND ROW: Carl James, Donald Renaud, Coach Charles Gause, Nornam Van Manen, Dale Scull Z7 Junior High Girls, Basketball Team FRONT ROW: L. to Rg R. Beason, C. Vos, C. Dobbs M. Van Zante, BACK ROW: L. to R. Coach Becker, M. Sparks P. Stewart, S. Willemsen K. Nelson. A hard-working junior -high girls' basketball team battled their way through the county tournament to win the runners-up trophy. Kay Nelson, an eighth grader, playing forward on the junior high team, was also asubstitute on the high school team. Kay has a good eye for the basket. Roberta Beason, an eighth grader, and out forward, had proved herself valuable in some of our close ball garnei. She had a good scoring record during the season. Sharon Willemsen, eighth grader, has done a fine job in the guard court as post guard. Although Carolyn Vos, eighth grader, is small, she is fast in guarding and can rebound and l'eC3Pture the ball well. Colleen Dobbs, also an eighth grader and guard, is extremely fast. Coll-een though lacking experience now, will become a valuable player. A lot of credit goes to our post forward, Pheryl Stewart, for her ball handling in the junior high tournament. As high scorer, she helped bring the team to the final game. Pheryl has also played good ball as forward on the high school team all season. Pheryl will certainly be seen on the high school team next year. Maida Sparks and Marcella Van Zante were our reserves. Although they didn't get much chance to Play, they did a good job when they were in the game. Although the junior-high boys were eliminated in the first round of the county tournament, losing to Monroe by a score of 39-18, they showed a great deal of improvement individually and as a team. Bob Lewis, eighth grade center, was one of our best rebounders and a high scorer. Bryce Gause, eighth grade guard, proved his worth in spite of his inexperience. Jerry Parrot, a seventh grader who played guard with Bryce, was a good fast rebounder. Carl James, seventh grade forward, handled the ball with the ease of someone who has had experience. Cornie Conn, seventh grade forward and a steady ball handler, did a good gob against a tall Monroe team. Melvin Harthoorn, although not a starter on the first team, went into the game in the third quarter and made four points. Nm-man Van Manen, another reserve, was a great help in rebounding because of his height. 28 L 5 at .ik c 1 r. xi I . vv I -X 1 -! 3 . Q 2. S . is i.
