BLUES SOFTBALL Homeruns, Hyballs, slides, catches, pitches, and runs are what it's all about ! Softball is a sport which requires dedication. Going outside in the freezing cold running bases and throwing the softball is hard work, but it's worth it! Because getting up to bat, slamming the ball into the outfield, running the bases and crossing home plate is a great feeling for a player and the team. It is this feeling that every girl who tries out for the Lynnhaven Junior High softball team wants to experience. BLUES BASEBALL A hush fell over the crowd as the slugger stepped up to the plate with a confident stride. He knew what he had to do. It was the bottom of the ninth, the bases were loaded, and his team was down by three. It was the final game of the season. If they could only pull it out everything would be okay. It was up to him. He shifted his stance and gripped the bat more tightly. The two immovable forces were at a stand-off. And then, the pitch. Baseball is a tradition at Lynnha- ven Junior High. As spring comes the anticipation of per- sonal glory brings many a hope- ful to try out for the team.

170 As the starting pistol sounds the runners dash by the spectators with a sudden burst of energy, carrying the winning spirit within them. This is a common sight for those who have experienced the excitement of a Lynnhaven track meet. However, boys track is not only running, but a combination of field events which require physical strength and endur- ance. With the help of Mr. Maull's BLUES BOYS T RACK excellent coaching and encour- agement the Blues track team strives to defeat the opposing team. Few things give you a such a feeling of accomplishment as passing over the finish line first at the end of a race or earning the highest score in an event. Members of the team train stren- uously to be able to achieve this feeling. For in the end they will be champions.
