I see them as they have never been and ask why not. You must envision where you want to go and create your own place in the world. You can learn the skills to climb the mountain or reach for your goals, if you only will. Success comes from setting goals and working to achieve them. Whatever you strive to be, the best pilot, auto body repair man, housewife, doctor, or lawyer - you must strive to be all you are capable of being. HLEARN HOT AND KNOW NOT ACADEMICS AT LYNNHAVEN A well rounded student is one who participates in all facets of school life: sports, clubs, S.C.A., and, of course, academics. At Lynnhaven Junior High, the edu- cational process is designed to guide each student in his devel- opment towards becoming a re- sponsible, contributing member of society. A school is only a building with- out interaction among students, teachers, administrators, and staff. It is only bricks and mortar without the probing questions and the discussions that go on behind closed classroom doors. The faculty and administration here at Lynnhaven try to foster the love of learning. A truly intel- ligent person is one who realizes that he has plenty left to learn and to discover. By stressing the importance of learning study skills and learning how to think, teachers in this school hope to equip students with the neces sary tools to learn new thing throughout their lives. Realizing that hA little learning i a dangerous thing, tAlexande Pope, Essay on Cn'ticism'? th faculty and administration hop that Lynnhaven's alumni wil continue to grow intellectually contributing positively to the fu ture of our world. Using computers is a new experience for many students. ACADEMICS 115 Students arrive for another day of hard work. This drama took place in a small town in our present day. The theme focused on a family, the Wesleys, that had taken in a boarder, Pete Sims, who had worked for them as a hired hand. He had lived with them for ten years and be- came part of the family. When he died, many unknown truths were 1 revealed, including the fact that 1 he had a wife and three daugh- ters. The play ended with a dra- matic conclusion that brought about the revelation of why he left his family. The members of the club pre- sented the play to the PTA, the student body, and again at the one-act play festival which was held at Plaza Junior High. They were awarded an excellent rating and were presented with a certifi- cate to display in our school tro- phy case. The judges were very impressed with the play's overall effect and how the actors and ac- tresses worked as a team to I bring about the intensity in the ' last scene of the play. The club also participated in Vir- ginia's Reading Month by pre senting skits and short dramati scenes taken from well-kno adolescent novels. These scene were presented to selected class es in our school library durin the month of January. The drama members all have . love for drama and many plan t strengthen their dramatic talen - by attending the Virginia Gover nor's Magnet School for the A or by taking theater and actin classes in the summer and i high school. Yet cheering at a game is only one of the many responsibilities of a Lynnhaven Junior High cheerleader. The Lynnhaven cheerleaders sacrificed long hours of summer vacation and time after school to practice. They worked on old cheers and devised new ones. They also made colorful posters for the halls and stadiums. With help from the captains of the squad, Ashley Blackman and Jessie McLellan, the girls learned new jumps at several practices. Being a cheerleader requires hard work, dedication, and long hours of practice. Each Lynnha- ven cheerleader displayed all of these characteristics. However, Lynnhaven sports fans had not to fear. Wrestling, the most popular of the winter sports, was quickly approaching along with its undying enthusi- asm. Little did we know it, but in the long weeks preceding the first match, the 1986-1987 Lynn- haven wrestling team sweated it out during practice to prepare for another winning season. The team was coached by Mr. Stokes, who carried the Blues through an even season of 4 wins and 4 loses. At the city championships, nine of our wrestlers placed out of fifteen weight classes. Leading the team was 175-pound Andy Miller who ended the season with elev- en straight pins. Not far behind were Curtis Goetel with six pins, and Jim Metcalfe who shut out seven opponents.
