Before usherlng out our Jumor year we took prlde 1n seelng several members of our class recelve honors at the graduatlon QXSFCISQQ of the class of 1947 Dulcle Ann Hussey was chosen to accept the class grft Norman Kllne was awarded the Harvard Book PYIZS and Loretta Valtz recelved the Esther M Hawks Peace Prlze an unusual honor for a 1un1or Thereupon our second year at Lynn Engllsh Hlgh School came to a close A few called lt a long vacatlon but most of us consldered It Just a llttle break between spr1nQ' and fall We once agam haunted the halls of Fngllsh Hlqh We were then bold semors or as the sophomores put lt weary llttle sophomores three years old Thls year was really ours' Try outs were 1mmed1ately held for ou1 drama Dear Ruth November 21st was the date of the flmshed ploductlon Once more our actors and actresses lncludlng Frrna Kmqsbury Dorothy MOFIIGOH Don ald Meggnson llbby Vaughn Wllllam Rosenberg' Betty Slate Jeanne Murphy Phll Hammond Robert Ross and Raymond Duffy presented a play that we shall always remember In the meant1me our football team cflptalned by Bllly Whelan u as rac1n,fr down the grld wlth flylnff colors Came Thanksglvmg morn ng' and at some unearthlv hour we crawled ont of bed 1n preparat1on for the blg day After Qh1V61'lY1D' 1n the br1sk November a1r for several bours we wltnessed the tradmtlonal contest And what a frame It was even lf We were defeated l FOll0WlIlfY the f lwr1stmas holldays our basket ball team led by Mlke Carr and Donald Rrothers became the center of attractlon As a cllmax to the successful season the coveted honor of plavlnsr ln the Tech Tourney vu as recelved Our track team under the captalnshm of Neal qrmth also d1d an excellent 1ob We showed them sell Dunn and the baseball souad ffave our opponents oulte a chase They soon real17ed that when we but we h1t' All ln all we were very proud of the dlstlngulshed records that our boys made for us 1n t athle 1cs The wlnter of 1948 was really a tOll0'h one ln fact It was so un obllqmgz that our Senlor Prom was postponed from Tannary 20th t March 19th At last the lonQawa1ted nlszht arr1ved and we danced south of the border The Queen s crown was once afzaln worn bv Vlr ,Q'1n1a Webster whlle W1ll1am Drlscoll was our gallant Klng Twas reallv a nlght never to be forgotten' How oulcklv the t1me flew bv' Aprll had already arrlved fzradua t1on only two months away Asraln the dramatlcs department stepped Into the spotllght thls tlme to present the ever popular Peter Pan for the chlldren of Lynn Casts were composed of students from both Flasslcal High School and Engllsh Many of us made new frlends at our slster h1,frh school Words cannot express the charmlng slmplxclty of the performance At the end of the tlnrd Quarter the co valed1ctor1ans of our class were announced Marv lane He17er Harold Falpern Norman Klsne and Barbara Landry attalned thls h1 h honor Throughout thelr entlre blah school courses these students earned an H averaffe 1n every sub 1ect From th1s group Mary Jane Helzer was selected to present the class Qlft Thus our semor year came to an end Now we find ourselves at the door of ffraduatlon Our hlgh school careers are over another mllestone ln our l1ves has passed The day has come for us to part Yet before we sever the t1e that blnds us together as the class of 1948 let each one of us resolve never to forget all that Englxsh Hlgh has meant to us RED AND GRAY 1 , . .. .
