were not dxscouraged On the contrary we lmmedlately organlzed and selected for our offlcers Pres1dent Donald Cheater Vrce Pres1dent Anthony Sohmme and Secretary Betty Faus For our assemblxes we enllsted the a1d of the Clly We were allowed to use the mag n1f1cent Clty Hall Aud1tor1um where we presented four assemblles The gymnaslum was soon repalred and there we held our school dances Our football team captamed by Fred Santangelo was one of the best Much of 1ts success can be attnbuted to the mauguratron of glrl cheerleaders who were of course selected by the volume 1n thelr vorces To us also came the honor of contrlbutlng to the flrst hockey team at Classtcal whlch was under the able coachlng of Mr Frlar The captaln of the team was Francrs Donahue Thts year the Gazette had a most successful year w1th Anthony Sol1m1ne the world s worst wretch as ed1tor Never before d1d the magazlne have so many new fea tures and 1nterest1ng stones Agaln the class of 50 was a part of somethxng new at Class1cal For the fxrst tlme a Drama Festwal was presented by the school Each class selected a one act play Our class put on The Val1ant one of the most 1nsp1r1ng plays ever wrltten Our semor drama Llttle Women turned out to be one of the frnest ever presented by Classtcal ln fact 1t was pronounced the worlds best play by that d1st1ngu1shed dramat1c cr1t1c E11 Mavros whose presenc 1n the audrence caused the cast to outdo themselves The Usherettes were part1cularly effectlve thls year as they appeared at the Chrlst to the consc1ent1ous work of the competent and able off1cers L1l11an McCarthy PTGSI dent and Adela Rampuh Captaln The pr1ze of the year for clever lnventlons came to our class only just recently when a few courageous sp1r1ts mtroduced the water plstol an unavoxdable torture to every senlor g1rl At mldyear the Year Book staff was organrzed wlth Henry Mosychuk as cha1rman Llttle d1d he know what he was gettlng 1nto when he accepted th1s pos1t1on But he managed of course w1th the help of p1cture cha1rmen Wrtteup cha1rmen rewrlte chair men boss cha1rmen answer the telephone cha1rmen and a few others One day toward the close of the year our usually casually attlred class appeared ln the unaccustomed splendor that mxght be found ln Vogue or m Hart Schaifner and Marx adds Leadmg the assemblage were Ken McDonald Don Cheater and Sully Sol1rn1ne The occaslon for th1s unusual event was the takmg of the class p1cture As the h1story of the class unfolded we became aware of an unusually l1vely group 1n our mxdst our n1mble and charmmg secretanes who tapped out all our not1ces and our class prophec1es To be sure m thxs task they were browbeaten by a slave dr1ver L1l11an McCarthy As p1ctures began to be exchang d and college acceptances were belna rece1ved we reluctantly real1zed that our hlgh school days were com1ng to a close Never w1ll we forget those many happy moments that we had at Classlcal espec1ally around the fountam of love on the second floor Feellng pfty for our underprlvllged predecessors who never knew the Joy of drama festwals Vanety shows c1ty hall a sembhes g1rl cheerleaders hockey teams and Junlor dances and envylng our lucky successors who w1ll take part rn the Gazette the plays the Year Book and all the other del1ghtful act1v1t1es we take leave of Classr cal and b1d farewell to our wonderful teachers and devoted classmates whom we shall never forget To Mr Buckley too as we say thls farewell we w1sh to express our apprecl at1on and thanks for the attentton and thought he has g1ven to the problems of our class on-1 B, - J , Mus ,.
